Founding member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Chekwas Okorie, has lamented obvious imbalance in ministerial representation across Nigeria's geopolitical zones under President Bola Tinubu's administration, reports ITREALMS.
Okorie underscored the disparity in ministerial allocations between the Southwest and Southeast regions, noting that Ogun State alone has five powerful ministers, while the entire South East region has only five ministers.
"The whole of the five states in the Southeast in terms of ministerial allocation is equal to one state in the Southwest," he decried.
The APGA chieftain also pointed out that only two ministers from the South East hold substantive positions, namely the Minister of Works and Minister of Science and Technology, while the other three are ministers of state.
He observed that despite this, the South East has the highest number of women ministers, but questioned the mindset behind these appointments.
Okorie's comments suggest that President Tinubu's administration may be perpetuating a culture of nepotism, with certain regions being favored over others. He stated, "President Tinubu has proved that President Buhari was a learner in nepotism." This raises questions about the fairness and inclusivity of the appointment process.
ITREALMS recalled that the concerns raised by Okorie underpins the need for a more balanced and representative government that takes into account the diverse needs and interests of all regions in Nigeria.
