The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Thursday, July 17, 2025, announced a three-day extension of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Anambra State, reports ITREALMS.
This decision, ITREALMS gathered was driven by impressive registrant turnout and public appeals.
The exercise, ITREALMS recalled was initially scheduled to conclude Thursday, but. will now run until Sunday, July 20, 2025.
The Commission expressed satisfaction with the CVR's progress across all 326 registration centers in Anambra, noting the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
As of Wednesday, July 16, 96,085 new voters have successfully registered in just nine days, averaging over 10,600 registrations daily.
Beyond new registrations, INEC also reported significant activity in other voter services:
12,595 voters applied for transfers of their registration, both within and outside Anambra State.
7,061 individuals sought to update their records or replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Key Demographics and Next Steps
Preliminary data from the new registrations reveals a strong female and youth presence.
ITREALMS further gathered that of the new registrants, 56,017 (58%) are female, while 50,429 (52.48%) are young people aged 18 to 34.
Following the extended registration period, INEC will display the voter register for public claims and objections as mandated by law.
This will be followed by a data clean-up using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) to ensure accuracy.
INEC promises a detailed breakdown of new registrants by age, gender, occupation, and disability will subsequently be published for public information.
