The Anambra State chapter of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has raised an alarm over the shameful and inexcusable failures characterizing the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across the state, reports ITREALMS.
The organization strongly condemns the avoidable chaos and failures reported across the state, particularly in Ogbaru, Obosi, Isiagu, Awba-Ofemili, Ugbene, Anambra East, Anambra West, Ihiala, and several other communities and wards, where thousands of people are being systematically denied their constitutional right to register and participate in the electoral process.
Ohaneze also said that complaints from various communities painted a disturbing picture of gross undersupply of registration machines and personnel, extremely limited registration locations, inadequate network infrastructure, and widespread reports of extortion.
“Transaction-driven bottlenecks have also been reported, especially in populous wards like Obosi, where most eligible voters have been unable to register,” they said.
This situation, the group said, is unacceptable, and INEC's failure to deploy resources adequately and ethically manage the process raises serious questions about its commitment to credible elections in Anambra State.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Anambra State, demands that INEC takes immediate and unconditional action to address these issues,” they group urged.
They also said, INEC must immediately extend the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across Anambra State and deploy sufficient registration machines, competent personnel, and reliable network infrastructure to all communities, especially rural areas.
The organization also demands an urgent investigation and sanctioning of all personnel involved in acts of extortion or transactionalizing the registration process.
Furthermore, they said, INEC must address all operational failures to restore public confidence ahead of the November elections and ensure that no citizen of Anambra State is denied the fundamental right to register and vote. Disenfranchisement in any form is a violation of civic rights and a threat to democracy.
Ohaneze further advised the Anambra State Government, political leaders, civil society, and all stakeholders to unite on this non-partisan issue and officially demand urgent intervention from INEC.
“INEC has an obligation not just to conduct elections but to guarantee that every eligible citizen is given unhindered access to the process,” the group stated.
As said by the publicist, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Anambra State Chapter, will not accept excuses or explanations. “What is demanded is immediate corrective action,” insisting that INEC extends the CVR now, fix the failures, and respect the civic rights of Ndi Anambra.
