Nii, Cheryl win 2015 Multistakeholder Ethos awards



Africa Internet pioneer, Dr. Nii Narku Quaynor and Ms Cheryl Langdon Orr were at the ongoing 53 public session of Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, jointly named as winners of 2015 Multistakeholder Ethos Award, reports ITRealms.

The award, ITRealms is given to members of global Internet community who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the multistakeholder model.

Over 1,400 members of the global Internet community would be meeting over the course of the week, both in-person and remotely, to discuss and debate the future of ICANN and Internet governance. The meeting’s 300+ sessions are a continuation of the community’s dedication to a global, secure, stable and resilient Internet, and their hard work in ensuring the success of the IANA stewardship transition.

“People have put enormous effort to make this multistakeholder effort go, and thank you. Thank you all for this effort. It will be recorded in history,” said ChehadĂ©.

Dr. Quaynor, ITRealms gathered was a former ICANN Board Director, a Member of the Internet Governance Forum Advisory Group at the United Nations, and Chairman of the Board of Directors at National Information Technology Agency. Quaynor is also a Member of the Internet Society of Ghana, Convener of the African Network Operators Group, was the Founding Chairman of AfriNIC, and was previously an Executive Chairman at AfTLD. He had also served as the Chairman of Network Computer Systems.

Mr. Quaynor is the Chairman of Ghana Dot Com LTD, a position he has held since 2007.
On the other hand, Cheryl currently serves as the Associate Chair of the 2015 ICANN Nominating Committee, and reappointed as a Director of the Internet Society of Australia, (ISOC-AU) an accredited ICANN At-Large Structure (ALS) since March 2005, having served in this capacity since 2001. For ten (10) years( 2004 to 27 Oct 2014) she has also been an elected Demand Class Director of the .au Domain Name Administrator (auDA) for Country Code TLD .au (which is a Founding Member of the ICANN ccNSO) , serving in a number of Board WG's and activities most recently in the Board Finance and Budget Sub Committee, and Chairing the Board Governance and Remuneration Sub Committee.

Her term as the Chair of the 2014 ICANN Nominating Committee was completed with the closing of the ICANN Public Meeting #51 in Los Angeles mid Oct 2014.

She continues to serve as a consumer advocate representative to the Australian Communications Compliance (CommCom) Advisory Committee an independent code monitoring (and reporting) body, that is to ensure that Carriage Service Providers (CSPs)  in Australia are compliant with the Telecommunications Consumer Protection (TCP) Code, since appointment there in late 2012, as well as having served as the 2013 NomCom Chair-Elect." until end November 2013 and  the ALAC Liaison to the ccNSO (2010 -2013). 

Previously she has been appointed as a Vice Chair of the ICANN At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) 2010-2011), after three terms (2007-10) as the ALAC Chair.

Within ICANNs At-Large Community she represents ISOC-AU as an ICANN accredited At-Large Structure (ALS) in ICANN's Asia Pacific Regional At-Large Organisation (APRALO) and also as an APRALO representative to the ALAC, (2007 - 2011). As Chair of the ALAC she was appointed to serve on the 1st Affirmation of Commitments Review Team for ICANN looking at Accountability and Transparency among others.
