Samsung, Smile ‘collabo’ on LTE smartphone available in Nigeria

Samsung Electronics prides itself as a global technology giant while Smile Communications Nigeria is the first authentic Forth Generation (4G) LTE provider in Nigeria to go into this performance enhancing partnership with Samsung.reports ITRealms.

In a joint press statement available to ITRealms, signed by Chief Marketing Officer, Smile Nigeria, Alero Ladipo, and Director, Information Technology and Mobile, Samsung Electronics West Africa, Emmanouil Revmatas,there is the need for both companies to enhance the customer experience through their product propositions.

Speaking on the partnership, Mrs. Ladipo stated that Smile Communications is specifically focused on the importance of partnerships of this nature to deliver on the end-to-end needs of the customer.

Our partnership with Samsung gives the customer the opportunity to own the latest Samsung LTE compliant smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S6 edge with a Samsung complimentary clear cover), a 5GB bundle SmileOn plan for a fixed price,” Ladipo said.

Revmatas explained that the Galaxy S6 edge has the world’s first-ever dual curved edge display, which distinguishes the device as the ultimate premium Smartphone. This partnership with Smile on S6 edge is the first of its kind in Nigeria, offering consumers the opportunity to drive productivity with a unique smartphone coupled with the 4G experience that Smile LTE network offers.

Honesty pays @ Microsoft says Ononiwu

“Chidozie Ononiwu, are you going to let this chance pass you by?” A voice in my head continued to ask me. Yet I knew I was not going to lie, even if it meant forgoing something that meant so much to me. 

Here was the situation: earlier in the year, Microsoft invited …Windows 10 Insiders (about five million people) to enter and participate in the Insiders to Campus Contest. The global tech giant whose mission is to empower every individual and organization on the planet to achieve more, offered to sponsor ten (10) Insiders to a two-day event to experience how it co-developed Windows with Insiders.

I was so happy to be one of the 10 people shortlisted. This meant that my entry scaled through several processes to emerge as one of the 10 out of 5 million contestants. My excitement was however cut short when I discovered a clause in the terms and conditions which stated that winners/participants must not have relative working with the company. Unfortunately, I had a relative working with Microsoft, and this meant foregoing the winning.

As an engineer, one of my dreams was to visit the headquarters of Microsoft in Redmond, Washington. And here was the chance, even with so many benefits; an opportunity to check out prototypes the public is yet to see, a chance to meet with Senior Microsoft Windows leaders, and several other exciting experiences.

Despite this matchless opportunity of going to Redmond fully funded by Microsoft, I chose to come clean. With a sad heart I wrote to Microsoft renouncing my qualification.

Today, I am happy I did the right thing. Microsoft appreciated my show of integrity and offered me gifts that amounted to over N700, 000. Some of the items given to me included; a surface pro 3, a type cover keyboard to go with it, a Lumia 1520 smartphone, two windows branded T-Shirts autographed by Joe Belfiore Corporate Vice President, Operating System groups, and many more. I even got a congratulatory video clip from Gabe Aul Engineering Corporate Vice President of the Windows Insider Program. 

There’s always a good turn to being honest, and I’m glad that Microsoft recognizes that too.

We have presently rolled out 13 stores nationwide in seven weeks with great retail ambience like no other at the moment and I can assure you by this time next year, we would have reached the 50 store milestone with same standards.

“We are here to dictate the pace and in line with this, we will review our market influence with the Press in the next one year. It is important to mention that our strategy is 21^st century focused and completely different from what currently exists in the sector,” he concluded.

APC Lagos mourns Mama Awolowo

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has described the death of the Matriarch of the Awolowo family, Mama Hannah Awolowo, as the closure of a glorious chapter in a progressive family that impacted positively on the lives of many Nigerian, ITRealms reports.

The Publicity Secretary, Lagos APC, Joe Igbokwe in a press statement made available to ITRealms said that Mama Awolowo lived a fruitful life that will remain indelible not only in the history of the country but on the many lives that were positively impacted through her actions.

They also noted that Mama Awolowo complimented her husband's progressive ideals to leave remarkable footprints on the Nigerian polity, describing her as a hallmark of matrimonial and ideological fidelity, which served the nation well as she lived her glorious life to an end.

"We are saddened that Mama Awolowo died just as the fruits of progressivism yielded after several decades of reactionary dominance of the country's politics and the corrosive effects it has had on a country that is richly blessed with both human and natural resources. We see Mama Awolowo as living a fulfilled life because, in her lifetime, progressivism, for which she suffered and was persecuted with her husband, late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, became the dominance ideology of the government in power at the center. We have no doubt that Mama Awolowo breathed a sigh of relief with the progressive ouster of reactionary politics got which she and her husband suffered greatly to achieve,” APC spokesman in Lagos said.

The party equally said that Mama Awolowo was a study in perseverance and patience as she stood solidly behind her husband in the days of dangerous politicking in the country.

“She remained firm, unshakeable and constant in the many years of struggle for the enthronement of progressive regime in the country and served as a guiding light to the struggle which yielded handsomely on March 28, 2015. She stood with her husband through the pains and anguishes of fighting for a better Nigeria and remains a yardstick for matrimonial fidelity till death,” Igbokwe said.

Lagos APC further said has no doubt that Mama Awolowo lived a happy and fulfilled life, which obtains in the significant impact she and her husband left in the lives of many Nigerians that drank from the flourishing well of achievements.

APC stressed that they still believe that Mama Awolowo had immeasurable wealth of experience to impart at the time of her death so we mourn her irreparable loss, reiterating that her death is a huge loss to the Nigerian progressive family and the entire Nigerian nation.

"We pray God to grant her soul eternal rest and console her family, friends, associates and Nigerians who stand to lose tremendously from her demise," APC prayed.

Entry opens for Etisalat Prize for Literature on Flash fiction category

The submissions for the 2015 Etisalat Prize for Literature Flash Fiction Category have opened, just as it would run between September 21 to October 19, 2015, reports ITRealms.

The flash fiction category of the annual Etisalat Prize for Literature, ITRealms reports, is designed to celebrate unpublished writers across the African continent and challenge budding writers to create compelling stories.

The Prize is open to all unpublished writers of African citizenship but can be resident anywhere in the world. All entries must be submitted online via the Etisalat Nigeria website, http://prize.etisalat.com.ng/flash/ and should not exceed 300 words. 

ITRealms gathered that the judging panel for the Flash Fiction Category, to be chaired by Toni Kan, consists of personalities who have established relationship with the African writing space spanning book clubs, poets, writers and critics. 

The selected judges for 2015, ITRealms gathered include Toni Kan, Hawa Jande Golakai, Abubakar Adam Ibrahim and Monica Cheru will bring their experience to bear on this year’s Etisalat Prize for Literature Flash Fiction Category.

ITRealms further gathered that the winning author will be rewarded with a cash prize of £1,000, a high-end device and the promotion of their published e-books,
while two runners up will each receive £500 cash prize and a high-end device. 

Just as Tanzanian writer and poet, Neema Komba, won the 2014 edition of the Etisalat Prize for Literature Flash fiction category.
