Samsung unveils Galaxy Z Flip5 and Fold5 to deliver flexibility, versatility - ITREALMS

Samsung Electronics has described its latest entrant, Galaxy Note 5 as the king of notes, even as the device is now available stores across the country, reports ITRealms.

The Managing Director, Samsung Electronics West Africa, Mr. Brovo Kim, said at the launch in Lagos, Wednesday that “Smartphones have become so central to our lives; so has the demand for larger screens.”

According to him, the launch of Galaxy Note 5 in Nigeria, affords customers to blend an advanced S-Pen with superior viewing experience, which provides users with a unique and powerful mobile experience.

Samsung, he said, has continued to improve the Note series with every new version crafted with metal and glass, the Galaxy Note 5 boasts a beautiful screen, suite of helpful productivity apps to accompany its super precise stylus, the S-Pen.

He said, in addition, Galaxy Note 5 is the first device to come loaded with 4 Giga Bytes (GB) of Random Access Memory (RAM), even as the device also features a curved backside, perfect for the edges of a palm.

“The first galaxy Note was a breakthrough, not just for Samsung but for the entire industry. Bigger screens have gone from nice-to-have to a must-have and the display once called a gimmick is now the norm,” he said, stressing that with the Note 5, customers could achieve more with their devices; quickly writing down ideas and notes at meetings or wherever inspiration strikes, just as its video conferencing experience delivers an immersive viewing experience to colleagues or families.

ITRealms gathered that the beautifully designed Note 5 flaunts a 5.7-inch screen with Quarter-HD (QHD) Super AMOLED display, which allows for clearer videos and images.

Samsung officials hinted that the larger screen size is also great for productivity, as emails could be penned quickly, editing and cropping photos and videos are much easier, and reading an ebook is possible without having to bump up the font size.

The Director, Hand Held Products, Samsung Electronics West Africa, Mr. Emmanouil Revmatas, said, they are aware that customers desire a big brilliant display but not a bulky device, causing them to choose between screen size and portability.

“At Samsung, we did not think that was a choice our customers had to make. With the Note 5, they have a big display in a slimmer package. The Note 5 is an intuitive and efficient device; it is the Galaxy re-defined, re-imagined and re-designed,” Revmatas said.

He listed other other exciting features of the device to include the Scroll Capture Feature, which allows users to capture multiple scrolls of a webpage. The screenshot is saved as an extra-long image file in the Gallery app, thus users could then pinch and zoom for more details. 

In addition, he says Note 5 has enhanced S-Pen, which continues to be one of the integral features of the Note, while the stylus has been upgraded with a clicky top and a nib that looks more like a ballpoint pen.

“The little wave of shortcut buttons, which appear on the screen when the stylus is popped out, can easily be customized and the device will send an alert whenever the stylus is not in its holster,” he explained.

Emphasising that S-Pen Air Commands pops up as soon as the pen is ejected from its internal holster, or when the stylus' tiny side button is clicked while hovering over the display, thereby these commands act as shortcuts to the Memos app as well as screen-cropping Smart Select and full screenshot Screen Write.

“There is a special option in Screen Write that lets you capture an entire page; so piecing together multiple screenshots for web pages or text conversations is a thing of the past,” he said.

Reymatas said the Galaxy Note 5 is available in single and dual SIM versions and users could opt for either the 32GB or 64GB option, as well as choose from a range of colors, including Sapphire Black, White Pearl, Titanium Silver and Gold Platinum.

Samsung, Smile ‘collabo’ on LTE smartphone available in Nigeria

Samsung, Intel, 4 others team up as Open Interconnect Consortium

The Samsung Electronics, Intel  have teamed up with Atmel, Broadcom, Dell and Wind River to form a group with to improve interoperability and to define the connectivity requirements for the billions of devices that will make up the Internet of Things (IoT), reports ITRealms.

Also gathered by ITRealms, would be known as Open Interconnect Consortium (OIC) with the aims to redefine connection standards that will ensure interoperability of devices including Personal Computers (PCs), smartphones, wearables and industrial appliances.

A press statement endorsed by Samsung Electronics showed that "The OIC is focused on defining a common communications framework based on industry-standard technologies to wirelessly connect and intelligently manage the flow of information among personal computing and emerging IoT devices, regardless of form factor, operating system or service provider."

Further, ITRealms gathered that some of the outcome could include the specifications capable of making it simple to remotely control and receive notifications from smart home appliances or enterprise devices using securely provisioned smartphones, tablets or PCs. Possible consumer solutions include the ability to remotely control household systems to save money and conserve energy

ITRealms recalls that member companies will contribute software and engineering resources to the development of a protocol specification, open source implementation, and a certification programme, all with a view of accelerating the development of the Internet of Things (IoT).

Samsung Galaxy S3 enters Nigeria

The latest in stock of Samsung Electronics, the Galaxy S III smartphone is now available in Nigeria, according to the Head, Corporate Marketing, Samsung Electronics West Africa, Mr. Donald Etim.

He said at the unveiling in Lagos that the Samsung Galaxy S III has been designed to respond intuitively and naturally to human use and interaction.

He said that this came a few weeks after its European launch, adding that the much expected device is now available at Samsung Brand Shops at The Palms Shopping Mall in Lekki and Ikeja Shopping Mall, in Alausa, Ikeja, both in Lagos.

Etim noted that the new phone is the follow up to the very popular Galaxy II, which was critical to Samsung overtaking Nokia to become the world’s best-selling mobile phone maker.

Samsung, he said, hope to consolidate the success achieved with Galaxy S II by enhancing some of its most popular features in this latest device.

“Galaxy S III comes with a 4.8 inch (12.2cm) screen, an increase on the 4.3 inch screen of its predecessor, and much bigger than the 3.5in display on the iPhone 4S,” he said, stressing it is one of the largest screens on smartphones ever.

The availability of this smartphone in Nigeria, Etim further said,rrival of the phone on Nigerian shores put paid to speculations as to when mobile phone users in the country can have access to the Smartphone which has enjoyed rave reviews across the world.

 “Once again, we are putting the ‘Next Big Thing’ in the hands of consumers. The Galaxy S III introduces a completely new way of sharing and socializing that no other mobile phone can. The device essentially balances ergonomics with intuitive use, making it an extension of the user,” he said.

DigitalSENSE News recalls that Samsung Electronics overtook Apple Incorporated in the last quarter of last year to become the world’s largest smartphone vendor amid a widening technology and legal battle between the two companies.

During the period, Etim pointed out that Samsung shipped 27.8 million smartphones, taking 23.8 per cent of the market, according to the United Kingdom- based renowned research consultancy, Strategy Analytics.

Apple’s 17.1 million shipments, comprising 14.6 percent of the market, pushed Apple to second place, the firm said, adding that Nokia maintained its third position.

Equally speaking, Olumide Ojo, Head, Smartphones, Samsung Electronics, West Africa said, “Nigeria is very important to us and we are delighted to bring this incredible device into the hands of Nigerians.”

He maintained that Samsung’s adoption of Google’s Android software has proved very useful to boost sales of its Galaxy smartphones and tablet computers, just as the company has managed to incorporate a number of features that proved popular with phone users.
