Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), just as he withdrew from the presidential contest, reports ITREALMS.

Obi in a letter of resignation to the National Chairman of the PDP, Wadata Plaza Abuja, dated May 24, 2022 and personally signed by him and made available to ITREALMS, he said his resignation has been conveyed to his ward chairman at Agulu Ward 2, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, effective, Friday, May 20, 2022.

Dear Excellency,

Let me commence by thanking you profusely for the honour and privilege of serving under your inspirational leadership. It has been a truly rewarding experience to learn from you and to observe at close quarters your integrity and sense of duty.

I have, today, become privy to the findings of the investigation into the allegation made in an online medium that the Certificate of Exemption from National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) that I had presented was not genuine. This has come as a shock to me and I believe that in line with this administration’s focus on integrity, I must do the honourable thing and resign.

Your Excellency, kindly permit me to outline some of the background to this matter. I was born and raised in the United Kingdom, indeed my parental family home remains in London. My visits to Nigeria up until the age of thirty-four (34) were holidays, with visas obtained in my UK passport. I obtained my first Nigerian passport at the age of thirty-four (34) and when I relocated there was debate as to whether NYSC Law applied to me. Upon enquiry as to my status relating to NYSC, I was informed that due to my residency history and having exceeded the age of thirty (30), I was exempted from the requirement to serve. Until recent events, that remained my understanding.

On the basis of that advice and with the guidance and assistance of those, I thought were trusted associates, NYSC were approached for documentary proof of status. I then received the certificate in question. Having never worked in NYSC, visited the premises, been privy to nor familiar with their operations, I had no reason to suspect that the certificate was anything but genuine. Indeed, I presented that certificate at the 2011 Ogun State House of Assembly and in 2015 for Directorate of State Services (DSS) Clearance as well as to the National Assembly for screening. Be that as it may, as someone totally committed to a culture of probity and accountability I have decided to resign with effect from Friday, 14th September, 2018.

Your Excellency, It has been an exceptional privilege to have served our nation under your leadership and to have played a role in steering our economy at a very challenging time. I am proud that Nigeria has brought discipline into its finances, has identified and is pursuing a path to long term sustainable growth that will unlock the potential in this great economy. Under your leadership, Nigeria was able to exit recession and has now started to lay the foundations for lasting growth and wealth creation. Repositioning this huge economy is not a short term task and there are no short cuts, indeed there are tough decisions still to be made but I have no doubt that your focus on infrastructural investment, revenue mobilisation and value for money in public expenditure will deliver growth, wealth and opportunity for all Nigerians.

I thank His Excellency, the Vice President and my colleagues in the Federal Executive Council for the huge pleasure and honour of working with them. I also thank most specially, the team in the ‘Finance Family’ of advisers and heads of agencies under the Ministry of Finance. Your Excellency, this group of committed Nigerians represent a range of backgrounds, ethnicities and ages. They have worked well above and beyond the call of duty to support me in the tasks assigned. The diversity in my team and their ability to work cohesively to deliver reforms, convinces me that Nigeria has the human capital required to succeed.

Your Excellency, let me conclude by commending your patience and support, during the long search for the truth in this matter. I thank you again for giving me the honour of serving under your leadership, it is a rare privilege, which I do not take for granted. As a Nigerian and committed progressive, I appreciate you for your dogged commitment to improving this nation.

Why Hakeem Bello-Osagie resigned from Etisalat Nigeria

A new insight into why the else while chairman of Etisalat Nigeria, Mr. Hakeem Bello-Osagie resigned his position has been attributed to pressures from purported friends in the banking industry, reports ITRealms.

Information reaching ITRealms news desk, showed that the approval of a restructuring plan for the telecommunications firm.

The former chairman of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), was the remaining shareholder in the embattled mobile network operator, Etisalat Nigeria which is operated the Emerging Markets Telecommunications Services (EMTS) with some 15 per cent of the equity holding.

Etisalat is under facility burden worth $1.2 billion, about N377.4 billion loan repayment crunch involving some 13-bank consortium led by Access Bank plc.

ITRealms recalls that penultimate Thursday, the major shareholder in Etisalat Nigeria, the Emirates Telecommunications Group, proclaimed a quit on the investment with effect from June 15, this year.

Sources close to Bello-Osagie, informed ITRealms that definitely he felt betrayed by his banking folks with the manner the banks were struggling to take over Etisalat.

CEO of GE Ethiopia, Yohannes Tilahun, resigns

The Chief Executive Officer, General Electric Ethopia, Yohannes Tilahun has resigned from his position effective May 1, this year, reports ITRealms.

President  and CEO, GE Africa, Jay Ireland in confirming this development said, “I would like to inform you that Yohannes Tilahun has announced his intent to resign from his position as Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) of GE Ethiopia as of May 1st 2016 to pursue other opportunities.”

GE, Ireland said, thank Yohannes for his contributions to support GE’s growth in Ethiopia and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

Meanwhile, GE has announced Daniel Hailu, the chief operating officer (COO) Ethiopia will be acting CEO Ethiopia until a replacement is identified. 

ITRealms recalls that Yohannes joined GE from Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC), where he held the role of Senior Director, Strategy.  He has also served as a special advisor to the CEO of the EIC as well as other Government Ministers on numerous issues including priority focus areas for greater economic development through private sector involvement.

Prior to this, he held roles of increasing responsibilities in the US with Wells Fargo and Morgan Stanley. Yohannes brought years of experience in designing and successfully executing large multi-stakeholder projects and leading teams to deliver results.

John Boehner resigns as US speaker after fulfilling 20-yr dream

Today, Friday, September 25, 2015, the Speaker of the United States House of Representative, Mr. John Boehner resigned his position after fulfilling a 20 year old dream, reports ITRealms.

Mr. Boehner while announcing his exit from the one of the high office in the United States, said he never expected to be in the Congress of his country and sees himself as fortunate enough to have been elevated to the position of speaker since 2011. 

“I never thought I’d be in Congress, let alone be speaker,” he was quoted as declaring by New York Times.

According to him, his meeting with the visiting Catholic Pontiff, Pope Francis before Thursday address to the congress was a life dream fulfilled.

ITRealms recalls that Mr. Boehner’s resignation came within 24 hours after a private chat with Pope Francis during his visit to the Capitol, which culminated in the fulfilling his longlife dream of getting Pope to address the joint US Congress.

Close sources to the now former Speaker said, “The announcement came just a day after Pope Francis visited the Capitol, fulfilling a 20-year dream for Mr. Boehner.” 

The 65 year old Legislator represents the people of Ohio, and was reported to had struggled most of his tenure as speaker due to several challenges of divided government which makes it had for smooth running of the affairs of the state, moreso from his conservative Republican members.

Also, New York Times reported that lately, Mr. Boehner was under pressure over defund Planned Parenthood bill.

Political analysts, have said that with Mr. Boehner’s announcement could count as lessening the chance of a government shutdown next week in the United States. They posited that Republican leaders will now push for a short-term funding measure to keep the government operating.

John Boehner, ITRealms gathered, is the son of a tavern owner from a large Catholic family, who had a private audience with Pope Francis before the Pontiff addressed Congress on Thursday.

Mr. Boehner has been in the House since 1990.

Olu Akanmu, bows out of Airtel Nigeria as CMO

Olu Akanmi, former CMO Airtel resigned yesterday

The Chief Marketing Officer of Airtel Networks Limited, Mr. Olu Akanmu, has resigned his appointment with the company, to pursue other interests-with effect from Wednesday, May 22, 2013, after spending about a little above 11 months in office.

Confirming this to ITRealms, Vice President, Corporate Communications & Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Airtel Nigeria, Mr. Emeka Oparah, said that the resignation comes immediate effect.

He also noted that Mr. Akanmu led the marketing function at a crucial time in the life of Airtel.

“Mr. Akanmu … brought his over two decades of marketing experience and a rich knowledge of the telecommunications market to bear on his role as our CMO,” says Oparah. 

He then wished Akanmu the very best in his future endeavours, just as a replacement for the CMO will be announced shortly.
