Anambra confirms apprehension over Army free medical outreach

The Anambra State government has confirmed the apprehension over the Army free medical outreach in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state, and requested immediate support of any army medical outreach within its domain, reports ITRealms.

The Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Prof Solo Chukwulobelu, decried the apprehension but acknowledged that their attention has been drawn to an ongoing medical outreach being undertaken by the Nigerian Army in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area, as  part of Army social responsibility to members of the public.

“However, strong apprehension among the populace has followed the exercise leading to withdrawal of students from schools by parents, misconception of the actual motive behind the exercise by stakeholders, community leaders and a general reservation by the public for whom the outreach is intended,” he lamented.

To ensure no further escalation of the situation, he quoted the Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, as having contacted the Army authorities with advice for immediate stoppage of the medical outreach until wide sensitization is conducted to reassure people of its intentions and benefits.

“The exercise has therefore been put on hold,” he assured, advising parents and guardians to stop withdrawing wards from schools as the situation has been handled.

“All schools within the State will remain open as there is no cause for alarm! Community leaders, Presidents General and all Stakeholders are hereby reassured of the commitment of the Governor and the State Government to the wellbeing of Ndi Anambra,” he said.

The State Government, he also said, strongly condemns observed rhetorics on social media completely misrepresenting the situation with insinuations of spread of diseases and death of students in schools arising from the exercise.

“The State categorically refutes these rhetorics and confirms that there is no death of any student anywhere in the State. Mischief makers are warned to desist from spreading falsehood. Anambra remains calm and peaceful” he declared.

Samsung confirms ‘smart TV’ listens to customers, warns on privacy

Samsung Electronic has confirmed that its 'smart TV' sets are listening to customers' every word, and the company has warned customers not to speak about personal information while near the TV sets, reports ITRealms.

The company revealed that the voice activation feature on its smart TVs will capture all nearby conversations. The TV sets can share the information, including sensitive data, with Samsung as well as third-party services.

The news comes after Shane Harris at The Daily Beast pointed out a troubling line in Samsung's privacy policy: "Please be aware that if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party."

Samsung has now issued a new statement clarifying how the voice activation feature works. "If a consumer consents and uses the voice recognition feature, voice data is provided to a third party during a requested voice command search," Samsung said in a statement. "At that time, the voice data is sent to a server, which searches for the requested content then returns the desired content to the TV."

The company added that it does not retain or sell the voice data, but it didn't name the third party that translates users' speech.

Samsung, however, insisted that customers about discussing personal information in front of their smart television set should desist.

ITRealms gathered that the warning applies to TV viewers who control their Samsung Smart TV using its voice activation feature.

"When the feature is active, such TV sets "listen" to what is said and may share what they hear with Samsung or third parties," official of Samsung confirmed, revealing that the third party in question is Nuance Communications Inc.
