Deepfakes: Next human vulnerability for businesses" Asks Ben Jacob - ITREALMS

Commentary@ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!

Synthetic audio and video generation technologies, known as deepfakes, have reached a critical threshold. Once mostly limited to social media entertainment or occasional political manipulation, they are now fully integrated tools in cyberattack tactics. This shift represents more than a technological evolution; it marks a transformation where human perception itself has become an attack surface. Recognizing a familiar voice or face is no longer a guarantee of authenticity.

In this context, businesses face a threat that relies less on raw technical skill and more on subtle manipulation of human behavior. Fraud campaigns now exploit cloned voices and manipulated videos to simulate authentic communications, deceiving even the most vigilant employees.

3GPP unveils Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure process

Under the guidance of our security group (SA3) and partner organization’s experts, the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has unveiled its Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure (CVD) process, reports ITRealms.

According to 3GPP, the CVD is now up-and-running, while allowing suspected or proven vulnerability caused by errors, omissions or ambiguities in the Technical Specifications to be reported and quickly forwarded to the appropriate 3GPP Group, to analyse and resolve the problem.

ITRealms gathered that this is the first time that 3GPP has put a process in place for this activity, formalizing how individuals or organizations can provide information on vulnerabilities related to our deliverables.

The 3GPP is a collaborative project aimed at developing globally acceptable specifications for third generation (3G) mobile systems, thus catering for a large majority of the telecommunications networks in the world.
