Telcom giant, Globacom has put its weight behind eBusiness Life Communication Limited in the campaign to recognize the empowerment of, and investment in girl-child as part of the global celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child, which comes up on October 11, 2018 at the Landmark Event Center, Victoria Island Lagos, reports ITREALMS.

Globacom also acknowledged in a letter to the organisers on the need to encourage young girls to ascribe to positions that will enable them contribute their quota to the growth and development of the country in all sectors of the economy.

Also, indigenous technology company, Signal Alliance Limited, said it is standing with eBusiness Life to empower these crop of young Nigerian girls to achieve their dreams this season.

Signal Alliance which has spread its footprint into health tech, Renewable energy, Enterprise IT and Fintech has been a campaigner for the education, empowerment and mentorship for young girls both in ICT and other fields of endeavour.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Adanma Onuegbu, had at a forum in Lagos encouraged young girls to take up the challenge and not look at gender disparity as a hindrance to achieving their goals.

International Day of the Girl Child is an international observance day affirmed by the United Nations. The Day was declared to raise awareness of issues facing girls internationally. These issues border on education, nutrition, child marriage, legal and medical rights. The Day of the Girl helps raise awareness, not only on the issues that girls face, but what is likely to happen when those problems are solved. For example, educating girls helps reduce the rate of child marriage, diseases, and helps strengthen the economy by helping girls have access to higher paying jobs. So the awareness is not only on the problems, but the eventual benefits when the challenges are resolved.

International Day of the Girl Child (Day of the Girl) is celebrated annually on October 11 to highlight issues concerning the gender inequality facing young girls. This year's theme is “The Power of the Adolescent Girl: Vision for 2030.”

According to the Chief Executive Officer of eBusiness Life Communication and convener of the event, Mrs. Ufuoma Emuophedaro: “Between inequities in secondary education to protection issues, adolescent girls are uniquely impacted and should benefit from targeted investments and programmes that address their distinct needs. Investing in adolescent girls can have a formidable ripple effect to create a better world by 2030.” She further called on corporate bodies and individuals to join the march towards highlighting the potentials and unique challenges of adolescent girls.

According to UNICEF (2017) there are 1.1 billion girls, who are a source of power, energy, and creativity and this year’s International Day of the Girl (IDG) on October 11 will mark the beginning of a year-long effort to spur global attention and action to the challenges and opportunities girls face in choosing careers.

The campaign also seeks to break the cycle of discrimination and violence and promotes the full and effective enjoyment of their human rights, and recognizing also that empowering girls requires their active participation in decision-making processes and the active support and engagement of their parents, legal guardians, families and care providers, as well as boys and men and the wider community.

The 2018 edition of the campaign, which seeks to position the girl-child for the future, is billed to hold on Thursday, October 11, 2018 and eBusiness Life Communications Limited, publishers of eBusiness Life magazine, a monthly consumer-centric ICT magazine, is billed to host this campaign in Nigeria.

The former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon had said, "Equality for women and girls is not only a basic human right it is a social and economic imperative. Where women are educated and empowered, economies are more productive and strong. Where women are fully represented, societies are more peaceful and stable."

Expected guests at the event include the Deputy Governor, Lagos State, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule; Lagos Commissioner for Women Affairs & Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Lola Akande; CEO, Signal Alliance, Mrs. Adanma Onuegbu; Managing Director of MainOne Cable Company, Ms. Funke Opeke; Country Manager of Google Nigeria, Ms. Juliet Ehimuan-Chiazor; Chief Executive Officer of Customer Centricity, Mrs. Uloma Umeano, among other top executives.

There will be a panel of discussants that will be drawn from each of the sectors represented, and from partner companies.

Access Bank, Union Bank, others, shine @ Signal Alliance customers week

Access Bank and Union Bank, at the weekend led two others to shine at the Signal Alliance recognition night as part of the 2016 Customer Week, reports ITRealms.

While Access Bank plc was awarded the Most Outstanding Enterprise Customer; Union Bank, the Most Consistent Enterprise Customer; Continental Re, emerged the Most Innovative in the Cloud; while Pan Ocean Oil got the Most Timely Customer on Enterprise Renewal.

The chief executive officer, Signal Alliance, Mrs Adanma Onuegbu, said that these recognitions were the climax of the company’s Customer Week long activities which held in Lagos, supported by Cisco and Microsoft.

“We remain humbled and appreciative of the support from our customers. We pledge our commitment to the maxim which states that, ‘Customer is king’ in our dealings, and provision of world class services.” As part of the week activities customers were visited, roundtable on IT security was organized and the Enterprise Customers Night to recognize and celebrate the Signal Alliance customer took place,” she said.

Signal Alliance to host dinner in honour of Tufekci

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Eastern, EMEA, CA Technologies, SeviTufekci and Nigeria’s senior business executives would be hosted to a dinner in Lagos by Signal Alliance on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, ITRealms reports

The meeting which is being put together by Signal Alliance, CA Partner in sub-Sahara Africa,according to a press release, is to enable senior executives in the financial, manufacturing and public sectors rub minds with Tufekci on security, service flow and disruptive technologies.

GES 2015: Onuegbu to speak at Obama instance

The Executive Vice Chairman, Signal Alliance and Founder of Sasware, Mr. Collins Onuegbu has been invited to speak at the 6^th Annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES 2015) in Nairobi, Kenya on July 25 – 26, at the instance of United States President, Mr. Barrack Obama, reports ITRealms.

Senior Director, National Security Council in US, Courtney Beale, in a letter to Mr. Onuegbu, stated that “Your participation will demonstrate your personal commitment to the President’s long standing support for entrepreneurship and his call to action on May 11 to generate new investment in entrepreneur around the world.”

ITRealms reports that Onuegbu who is a leading investor in technology and technology-enabled businesses has accepted the invitation, and will be part of a discussion in Intra-Regional Entrepreneurship and Trade at the summit.

“There is need for more engagement and sharing of ideas to see how we can improve and support entrepreneurs in an emerging economy like ours. Nigeria entrepreneurs and angel investors need all the support they can get to grow their businesses and generate employment in order to reduce poverty,” Onuegbu told ITRealms

ITRealms recalls that President Obama launched the GES in 2009 in order to bring together entrepreneurs and investors from across Africa and around the world annually to showcase innovative projects, exchange new ideas, and help spur economic opportunity.

The 2015 GES agenda, ITRealms gathered would focus on generating new investments for entrepreneurs, with a particular focus on women and youth. Hence, since 2009, GES has emerged as a global platform connecting emerging entrepreneurs with leaders from business, international organizations, and governments looking to support them. This is the first time GES will take place in sub-Saharan Africa.

Signal Alliance, Microsoft partner NIA on cloud adoption

Signal Alliance and Microsoft Nigeria are collaborating with the Nigerian Insurance Association (NIA) to promote cloud technology adoption and information Technology (IT)-driven insurance solutions for the robust development, with limited free usage offer, reports ITRealms.

In a recent joint workshop with NIA, ITRealms gathered the parties agreed to develop technology solutions that will enhance the practice of Insurance in the country as it was attended by some big players including participants from NEM Insurance, IEI, FBN Insurance, and Cornerstone Insurance among others.

Speaking on the workshop, Signal Alliance (SA) Enterprise Solutions Development Lead, Mr Anthony Nwankwo said their  vast knowledge in deploying technology in the Nigeria financial services sector and global experience of SA partner Microsoft have been made available to enable this sector operate more efficiently.

“Thereby giving workers and customers a whole new experience,” he said.

Nwankwo also said the fact that Cloud is the way to go for the insurance companies because it will enable them to achieve economies of scale – increase volume output or productivity with fewer people; Reduce spending on technology infrastructure through pay-as-you-go model (weekly, quarterly or yearly).

In addition, he said cloud offers insurance companies options to streamline  their processes and enable them to get more work done in less time with less people; Capital cost reduction. They don’t need to spend additional money on hardware, software or licensing fees; Mobility and Improve accessibility. It will enable their workers to have access anytime, anywhere; Keep to budget and monitor projects more effectively; and Minimize licensing new software. Stretch and grow without the need to buy expensive software licenses or programs.

For Audu Dunni Oladokun, NIA Chairman Education Sub-Committee, “The knowledge shared at this roundtable has shown us how trending technologies can transform insurance businesses in Nigeria.”

The forum noted that there was need to automate the process of design and approval by incorporating secured digital signatures in a holistic manner that will ensure speed, convenience and mobile access.

 Ola Williams of Microsoft expressed Microsoft readiness through Signal Alliance to see to the success of the effort of any insurance company that wants to fast track cloud technology adoption in a bid to be more productive and efficient in their operations.

At the roundtable, various technologies and solutions for insurance business were discussed. It includes; Customer Relationship Management, Business Intelligence, Data Analysis, Cloud Computing, Mobility, Software development and Unified Communications.

We’re satisfied with outcome of workshop, says Signal Alliance boss

Signal Alliance has expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the company’s 2015 Customer Week workshop in Lagos organized in conjunction with CISCO, reports ITRealms.

In a chat with ITRealms, the CEO, Mrs Adanma Onuegbu, declared “We’re quite satisfied with the outcome of the conversations that took place, considering the challenge the Nigeria economy is currently facing due to fall in global oil prices, exchange rate collapse, and uncertainty surrounding the elections. This is compounded by the fact that Nigeria is largely an import-based and a mono-product economy.”

 At the workshop organized by the company to design a technology roadmap for Nigeria, experts identified technology as one of the key components in the diversification of the Nigeria economy.

The participant and panelist  agreed that all stakeholders should work together to do the following; Build an ecosystems that will support start-ups from setting up investment  institutions from seed funding to technology backed private equity, and promoting incubators and accelerators; deepening government structures that supports indigenous technology  like the Federal Ministry of Communication Technology, NITDA, SMEDAN, etc; Encourage consumption of local technology  through strict implementation of the local content law; and standardization of local technology products to enable them compete internationally. 

The workshop which theme was ‘Diversification & Innovation: A technology roadmap to grow Nigeria economy’ was attended by business leaders in the public and private sectors, technology leaders & entrepreneurs, and media

Signal Alliance Gathers ICT Practitioners for Customer Week Workshop

Signal Alliance (SA) lived up to its promise to host customers in Lagos, as participants discussed “Diversification and Innovation, a Technological Roadmap to Grow Nigeria’s Economy” reports ITRealms.

The workshop, ITRealms gathered was designed to chart an innovative means of diversification of the country’s economy was graced by managing director of companies and reputable practitioners in ICT industry, at the Civic Centre Lagos.

These gurus  that also formed  the panel at the workshop include Gerald Ilukwe, Founding MD, Galaxy Backbone and Former General Manager, Microsoft Nigeria; Miss Yemi Keri, Managing Director, ICT Agency in Edo State; Victor Okigbo, Head, IDEA Hub; Kachi Onubuogu, Executive Director, Commercial, Promacidol; Richard, Amafonye, Chief Information Officer, Skye Bank; Pius Ekeh(Jr.), representing Mr. Chris Uwaje, Former President ISPON; while Mr. Chinyere Mba-Uzoukwu, Managing Director Info Graphics, and Mr. Moses Ibraimah, Head, Branding and Marketing, Signal Alliance jointly moderated the workshop. Although both the panelists and the participants were of the view that there have been great loss of opportunities in the past to place Nigeria on topmost pedestal of technological innovativeness, ITRealms learnt that they are still of the opinion that the key to propel the nation upward  economically could only be achieved through technology.

According to Yemi Keri, who asked the question, ‘how did we get to where we are today as a country?’ She stated that before the discovery of oil the nation’s economy was fully diversified, with the western Region producing cocoa, East was involved in palm oil while the North was known for ground nut, and then oil came and we forgot the other sectors, today the oil is going down, there is insecurity in the country, so for now Information Technology is the only viable solution to the country’s problems.

While Gerald Ilukwe asserted that everybody is mentally lazy and looking for shortcuts, lamenting on a situation where every software developer is going into payroll and asked the question, how many payrolls can we design? He commended Nollywood for their innovativeness and urged ICT practitioners to show more innovativeness.
