How Ekweremadu escaped assassins again - ITREALMS

The Deputy Senate President (DSP), Chief Ike Ekweremadu, has once again escaped assassination by gunmen, early Tuesday morning in his residence at Apo Legislative Quarters in Abuja, reports ITREALMS.

A direct attempt, ITREALMS recalls was made on the Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District on November 17, 2017, when his convoy was blocked at about 10:00am between Apo Flyover and Dantata Construction Company’s yard, close to the Old Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Headquarters junction on his way to work.

However, on Tuesday early hours, gunmen invaded his rresidence in Abuja but every member of his family at home escaped including his wife and children, despite the security cordon around the premises at the Apo Legislative Quarters in Abuja.

Confirming the attempt on DSP, his spokesman, Uche Anichukwu, gave a graphic description of the incident, in a statement, on Tuesday, saying however, that the top federal lawmaker, was able to survive the attack while one of the suspected assailants, was arrested.

“The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, his wife, and son escaped an assassination attempt at about 4am on Tuesday.

“The armed men discreetly evaded the security at Ekweremadu’s Apo Quarters residence, to gain entry into his house. The attackers, who could not immediately shoot in order not to attract the attention of the security personnel on duty, took hold of his son and commanded him to lead them to the Senator’s bedroom.

“It was at the Senator’s bedroom that a struggle ensued, leading to the arrest of one of the assailants with dangerous weapons and housebreaking devices, while the rest managed to escape. The arrested member of the gang reportedly refused to divulge any information on the operation and has been handed over to the police.

“Ekweremadu, his wife, and one of his sons were in the house at the time of the attack.”

Dickson, hope for Nigeria says Ekweremadu

The Deputy Senate President, ‎Chief Ike Ekweremadu on Saturday commissioned the interns and house officers’ quarters at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Bayelsa State built by the Governor Henry Seriake Dickson's administration, reports ITRealms.

Ekweremadu said he was delighted to be given the honour to commission the project‎, adding that every investment in the health sector were not a waste as it borders on the wellbeing of the people.

He thanked Dickson for using the resources of the state for the benefit of the people, saying with such landmark project in a federal institution, the governor is making a strong statement for democracy.

Ekweremadu asked visitors to the state, especially guests in the 74th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (Africa Region) Executive Committee meeting to take the message to the world that democracy is indeed working in Bayelsa State.

“Today I feel happy and satisfied and let me say here that I am happy to be associated with Governor Dickson because he represents the hope for a New Nigeria. When I listened to the governor earlier and the health commissioner as well as the CMD I was close to shedding tears of joy. 

"Investments like this will reduce cases of infant and maternal mortality. God has raised Governor Dickson at this time to serve his people which he is doing and I congratulate you for this. You are changing the narrative of this state.

"No matter how disadvantaged Bayelsa is, geographical wise, you are not relenting to put it on the global map. Some of us are convinced that when we come here for any purpose and have any health challenge, we will be properly attended to" he said.

While congratulating the beneficiaries of the magnificent structure, Ekweremadu said the place of Dickson in history is already assured and urged him to continue in the current trajectory.

Earlier Governor Dickson stated that he saw the need to build the quarters despite its location in a federal establishment as it will on the long run serve the generality of Bayelsans which according to him is paramount.

Dickson used the opportunity to restate the commitment of his government to offer quality service to the people and stressed that the investment in the health sector has made it a prime destination for medical tourism.

In their separate remarks, the State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Ebitimitula Etebu and the Chief Medical Director of the FMC, Dr. Dennis Alagoa described the building of the quarters as a dream come true ‎and expressed appreciation to the governor.

Ekweremadu condemns fresh heldsmen attack @Akagbwe Ugwu

Following the early morning fresh attack at Akagwe-Ugwu community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, on Thursday, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu has condemned the onslaught, reports ITRealms.

This attack, ITRealms also gathered left scores including a seminarian dead according to an eye-witness.

Ekweremadu, in a press statement made available to ITRealms, decried the never-ending attacks on parts of the country, especially in the South East by suspected herdsmen, saying they pose a grave threat to the peace, security, and economy of the country.

Also he called on the Federal Government (FG) to restraint the trend in a decisive manner, declaring “This is another heartbreak, not only for Enugu State, but the nation in general; and whatever evil forces behind these reprehensible acts certainly do not wish the country well. It must not be condoned.”

Ekweremadu equally said the primary object of government is the welfare and security of the citizens, stressing that the Federal Government must take decisive steps to put a full stop to this wanton destruction of lives and property; and the security agencies must do everything humanly possible to ensure that the perpetrators of this act of wickedness in Akagbe-Ugwu do not go unpunished.

Saraki, Ekweremadu docked: Nigeria's democracy on trial says Deputy Senate President

The Deputy President of the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has described his trial alongside the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and two other senior members of the National Assembly (NASS) staff over an alleged forgery of document to facilitate their emergence of current leadership of the Red Chamber as democracy on trial, reports ITRealms.

Reacting after appearing and pleading not guilty amongst others, the deputy president of Senate said he presented myself to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on Monday, June 27, 2016, as an ordinary citizen of this great nation to plead ‘not guilty’ to charges he did not and could not have committed.

As said by him in a press statement sighted by ITRealms, there is deeply troubling to note that people in high places who swore to uphold the law, have dwindled into purveyors of falsehood and rumours who seek to smear and tarnish the reputation of law abiding and responsible citizens as well as cripple the hallowed institutions of democracy.

“It is all the more disheartening that people who should know better use the colour of their office to pursue private vendetta against people they disagree with,” he said.

Ekweremadu said this grotesque display of vindictiveness, arrogance, and mindless targeting of innocent citizens should find no sanctuary in Nigeria’s democracy, stressing that using the machinery of justice to create disorder is a dangerous and invidious scheme that ultimately will lead Nigeria down the road to perdition.

“It is Senator Bukola Saraki and Senator Ike Ekweremadu today, who knows whose turn it will be next?,” he asked, wondering that as a law-abiding citizen and believer in the rule of law and all the rights and privileges it advertises, that its only in his place not to commit crime, but way out of his reach not to be accused of one, especially when instruments of power become apparatuses for oppression of the innocent and voices of opposition.

Senator Ekweremadu pointed out that he does not claim to be above the law, just that he believes that the law should not be used as an instrument to bludgeon innocent citizens into submitting to the untamed wishes and caprices of witch-hunters.

“However, I put my trust in God, the court, and the overwhelming solidarity of the good people of Nigeria. When the dust settles, Nigerians will see clearly that this charge is nothing but meretricious thrash. Time, occasions, and provocations like this will teach their own lessons. I hope that one chief lesson will be that democracy differs markedly from military rule and that public officer should never subvert the foundations of democracy by prioritizing the rule of man over the rule of law,” he said.

The Deputy Senate President warned that Nigerias that to make no mistake about this trail, because it is not Senator Ike Ekweremadu or Senator Bukola Saraki or the other accused persons that are on trial; rather the hallowed democratic principles of separation of powers, rule of law, the legislature, and indeed democracy itself are on a ridiculous trial.

Mere anarchy is unleashed upon the land, but our courage must not fall apart. No condition is permanent and nothing lasts forever.

“For me, I find great comfort in the immortal words of late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe who said that history will vindicate the just and the wicked will not go unpunished,” Ekweremadu said.
