In a major strategic push to accelerate the adoption of Nigeria’s Country Code Top-Level Domain (ccTLD) and align national legislative governance with digital identity infrastructure, the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) has officially decorated two of the nation's most influential tech-focused federal lawmakers as .ng National Ambassadors, reports ITREALMS.
The decoration, which represents a deliberate move by NiRA to bridge legislative policy with internet governance, saw the formal induction of the Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, alongside his counterpart from the House of Representatives, Hon. Stanley Adedeji Olajide, who presides over House Committee on Information and Technology.
The lawmakers were draped in symbolic green-and-yellow .ng Ambassador sashes while holding their institutional plaques and certificates of recognition.
They stood flanked by top NiRA executives, including the President, Mr. Adesola Akinsanya; the Chairperson of the NiRA Board of Trustees (BoT), Dr. Ibukun Odusote; and the Chairman of the .ng Academy, Mr. Seun Kehinde.
The choice of these specific lawmakers signals NiRA’s intent to leverage legislative influence to cascade .ng domain compliance across public institutions, Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), and private enterprises nationwide.
As .ng National Ambassadors, the recipients are tasked with leading advocacy for the reclamation of Nigeria's digital sovereignty on the global internet map, promoting the domestic hosting of data, and pushing for security-first policies like DNSSEC and advanced cybersecurity compliance at the parliamentary level.
ITREALMS recalls that Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu represents the Ogun Central Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly. Before his election to the Senate, he built a stellar career spanning both the private technology sector and high-level public administration.
A veteran data systems expert and administrator, Senator Salisu previously served as the Chief of Staff to the Ogun State Governor. His legislative agenda focuses heavily on building robust digital economies, establishing tight legislative safeguards against cyber threats, and formulating progressive regulatory frameworks that support broadband expansion and local tech talent incubation across Nigeria.
Also, Hon. Adedeji Stanley Olajide (popularly known as Odidiomo) represents the Ibadan North West/Ibadan South West Federal Constituency of Oyo State in the House of Representatives. With a strong background in international corporate operations and business development, Hon. Olajide has emerged as a key champion for public-sector technology modernization in the green chamber.
As Chairman of the House Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, his work centers on addressing infrastructure deficits within the technology sector, driving statutory compliance for data localization, and designing oversight mechanisms to curb electronic fraud and secure Nigeria's expanding fintech ecosystem.
