To catalyze educational development and support government efforts in Delta State, the Dr. Cairo Ojougboh Foundation has made a significant investment in the future of Nigerian youth, reports ITREALMS.

Established to honor the memory of the late medical doctor and former member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, the foundation recently converged on St. Columba’s Grammar School, Agbor, for a life-changing outreach tagged “Your Future, Your Choice.”

The highlight of the event was the presentation of a ₦2,700,000 cheque to cover the examination fees for students preparing for the West African Examination Council (WAEC), National Examination Council (NECO), and the Junior Secondary School (JSS 3) examinations.

This strategic intervention directly addresses the financial barriers often faced by students in the Ika South Local Government Area, ensuring that economic constraints do not halt their academic progress.

Beyond paying for examinations, the Foundation rewarded academic brilliance by presenting cash gifts to the top students across the nine academic arms of the school.

To further encourage effective learning, hundreds of notebooks and essential writing materials were distributed to the student body, reinforcing the foundation’s commitment to providing both the means and the tools for success.

The Chairperson of the Foundation, Mrs. Bose Ojougboh, who was accompanied by her sons, Mr. Nkem Ojougboh and Mr. Orieka Ojougboh, delivered a stirring address centered on personal responsibility.


She noted that St. Columba’s Grammar School was instrumental in shaping the late Dr. Cairo’s values of discipline and service.

"Obstacles should not be seen as roadblocks, but as stepping stones for growth," she told the students, urging them to take intentional, positive life choices, emphasizing that hard work and consistency are the non-negotiable ingredients for success.

The event drew a strong presence of the St. Columba’s Old Boys Association, led by Elder Ndudi Agholor, who shared nostalgic reflections of their time at the prestigious institution, commending the current school leadership for maintaining the high standards that produced luminaries like the late Dr. Ojougboh.

In their remarks, the school principal, Rev. Fr. Joseph Ugboh, and the Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, lauded the Ojougboh family for choosing to honor Dr. Cairo’s legacy through human capital development.


They described the initiative as "commendable and impactful," noting that such private sector-led support is vital for the sustainability of the nation's educational goals.

The programme concluded on a high note, leaving the students not only with their fees paid but with a renewed sense of hope and a determination to make their own choices count in the journey of life.
