A United Kingdom-based socio-cultural group, Ogbako Ndi Igbo UK, has petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling for the removal of the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, over alleged promotion of ethnic bigotry against the Igbo, reports ITREALMS.
According to the petitioners, the reposted content allegedly described the Igbo ethnic group in derogatory terms such as “monkeys,” “bastards,” and “children of gorillas.”
Quoting the petition, ITREALMS gathered that:
“By choosing to repost this content, Hon. Dabiri-Erewa did not just overlook bigotry, she actively participated in it, sanctioned it, and broadcasted this hate speech from her official platform to a national audience.”The group argued that such conduct contradicts Dabiri-Erewa’s statutory mandate at NIDCOM, which is to foster unity, inclusion, and fair representation of Nigerians in the diaspora.
They further described her action as “a gross and unforgivable dereliction of duty.”
As a result, Ogbako Ndi Igbo UK announced its withdrawal of recognition from Dabiri-Erewa’s leadership of the Commission, vowing not to engage in any of her events or initiatives until corrective action is taken.
