Erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP) Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze has condemned in the strongest terms, the criminal invasion of the premises of a Federal Lawmaker and APC candidate for Etche/Omuma Constituency, Chief Ephraim Nwuzi, by masked men, reports ITREALMS.

Eze who alleged that the masked men were later revealed to be security agents executing the orders of Gov. Nyesom Wike, at the wee hours of Wednesday.

The lawmaker was consequently arrested and hurriedly arraigned and remanded in custody within seconds, in a manner most surreptitious, infracting and preposterous.

In a statement made available to media houses in Port Harcourt, Eze said the harrowing ordeal is a clear case of political witch-hunt devised by Gov. Wike and his faction of PDP to stifle democracy and dampen the morale of voters who are already in high spirits and determined to return the Lawmaker to the Green Chambers on Saturday with their ballots.

The party Chief reiterated that democracy is on trial in Rivers State, noting that had President Mohammadu Buhari heeded the call for an emergency rule, it would have provided a respite for political actors especially candidate and members of opposition political parties who are at the receiving end of Gov. Wike’s parochial and anti-democratic tendencies.

While the home of Chief Ephraim Nwuzi was under invasion, the facilities of Atlantic TV and Wish FM, owned by Chinyere Igwe, a pro-Atiku lawmaker was under attack with explosive devices which led to the total destruction of the media company, leaving some officials with various degrees of injuries. Similarly, the SDP House of Reps Candidate for Obio/Akpor was not left out, as his home was equally visited and vandalized by yet-to-be-identified men. All of these heinous crimes calculated to clamp down on those opposing Gov. Wike happened simultaneously yesterday in Rivers State.

Eze cautioned officers and men of the Nigerian police in Rivers State to be wary of being inveigled in a situation in which they turn themselves into partisan agents of wrongdoers in the pursuit of their selfish, private vendetta and concentrate on the task of fighting crimes and criminality especially politically motivated crimes which has taken an alarming dimension in recent weeks.

Describing Chief Ephraim Nwuzi as a composite gentleman with impeccable character, Eze called on the good people of Etche/Omuma federal constituency to remain steadfast, peaceful and respond through their ballots, with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people.

“I call on the good people of Etche/Omuma federal constituency to go ahead and renew their social contract with Chief Nwuzi on Saturday 25 February, to show that they are truly with him notwithstanding the circumstance and so that upon his return within a short while, it will be double celebration for all.”

In the same vein, I call on the good people of Rivers State to unite and vote out anything relating to Governor Nyesom Wike, he has done enough damage not only to our common patrimony, security, health, educational and welfare of our people. We can't continue to be timid and be intimidated by one single man in his desire to foist his stooges on us. He succeeded in 2015 and 2019 and if he succeeds this time around the future of our children may be at stake so let us be whom we are as true Rivers State people and ensure that this man never gets close to power again. Enough is Enough!!!
