Why Oro Nation must sustain support for Gov. Udom - Ekuwem

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem has adduced some reasons why the Oro Nation in Akwa-Ibom State would continue to sustain their support for Governor Emmanuel Udom, reports ITRealms.

Ekuwem gave this insight while in a remark during a congratulatory visit by a cross section of Enwang community in Mbo led by Enwang Development Union (EDU) in his Uyo office, recently.

He said that why the support for Gov. Udom must not allow to wain is that it would serve as their way of reciprocating the love the Governor has for Mbo people as exemplified in his appointment as Secretary to the State Government, as well as the developmental strides of the Government in Mbo in particular and Oro Nation by extension.

Ekuwem commended Governor Udom for his sincerity and fairness in developing Oro and the State at large, describing the Governor as someone with good conscience, stressing the importance of Mbo people to be serious in the ongoing continuous voters registration and applauded the Chairman of Mbo Local Government Area, Hon. Asukwo Eyo for the good work he is doing in this regard.

Earlier in an address presented by the Secretary General of Enwang Development Union, Mr.Eteyen Imisim, Enwang people said they were at the Government House, Uyo to convey their heartfelt appreciation to the Governor for the appointment of their illustrious son, Ekuwem as SSG, describing the gesture as a wonderful new year gift to Mbo, Oro Nation and indeed Akwa Ibom State.

The Enwang community said the choice of Ekuwem as Secretary was superlative, considering his enormous track records in academics, exposure and sense of duties.

They maintained that with the wealth of experience of the SSG, the political fortunes of the State will definitely be expanded in addition to the consolidation on the industrialisation policy of the State Government.

The union expressed the hope that the appointment of Dr.Ekuwem will speed up the completion of the ongoing projects in Mbo in particular and Oro Nation as a whole, especially the much desirous Ibom Deep Seaport and Industrial city, Enwang/Etebi road with bridge across Affi/Ukonteghe Uda River, saying that the projects when completed and commissioned would boost the economic activities and accessibility of the oil rich area.

The people used the opportunity to specially thank Dr.Ekuwem and the entire Mbo Stakeholders for graciously zoning the chairmanship position of Mbo to Enwang, which produced Hon.Asukwo Eyo as the Chairman.

The Chairman of Mbo Local Government Area, Hon.Asukwo Eyo said Mbo people and indeed Oro Nation are happy with the Governor for his love as demonstrated in the appointment of their son, Dr.Ekuwem as Secretary to the State Government, describing Udom's gesture as a beginning of a new life in the political history of Oro Nation.

Hon.Eyo who decried the alarming rate of militancy in Mbo waterways, called on the Government to empower Security Agencies to arrest the ugly trend which he lamented is affecting negatively on the economic lives of Mbo people and  those doing business in the area.

He said, " The activities of militants in Mbo waterways is disturbing. Recently, two persons were kidnapped along Esuk Enwang and Ute Iyata in Mbo waterways. So, we are crying to the Government to come and arrest the situation because Mbo is predominantly a fishing settlement and the people predominantly fishermen. Fishing is our main occupation.

"We have influx of persons coming to Mbo from other parts of the state, while some come to Mbo through Cameroon waterways."

Also speaking, the facilitator of the visit, CSP Sam Ediette (Rtd), commended Ekuwem for his humility and pledged the unflinching support of Enwang people to the second term bid of Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2019.
