Microsoft introduces LongHorn beta 3

Information Technology (IT) giant, Microsoft Corporation, has introduced the beta three (Beta 3) version of upcoming edition of Windows Server, code-named “Longhorn.”

Beta 3 is the evaluation version of a software application, which enables users assess the increased control, protection and flexibility offered by the forthcoming product.

Champion Infotel gathered that the final version of Windows Server has been scheduled for release before the end of the second quarter, that is, by September this year.

The Product Marketing Manager, Server and Tools at Microsoft West Africa, Mrs. Ejieke Maduka-Ezeadiugwu, informed that as the Windows Server go on test drive, it would afford both customers and partners of Microsoft to make input into the final development of the solution, which in the overall analysis would assist them in cutting costs.

“If there’s one message we want to send, it’s get ready; download and evaluate,” she said.

Mrs. Maduka-Ezeadiugwu stressed that globally IT professionals are known to face increasing pressure nowadays from competition, rapidly changing technology, shrinking budgets and expanding business needs, but with Windows Server “Longhorn” built from the ground up to help alleviate these pressures through the automation of daily management tasks, tightening security, they would be doing more with less.

She disclosed that an internal study, approximated that 70 per cent of IT budgets are devoted to daily management tasks, indicating a high demand for services such as help desk, infrastructure health monitoring and systems and update management.

She added that new features in Windows Server “Longhorn” such as Server Manager, the Server Core installation option, Windows PowerShell, IIS 7.0, native Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI 2.0) support and Active Directory Federation Services reduce infrastructure management and servicing needs, while improving reliability and security.

Chief Consultant, 1st Intellit Solutions, Mr. Niyi Omotoyinbo, expressed excitement on the introduction of Beta 3 Windows Server, saying, “We love the new features in Active Directory and the improvements to Terminal Server.”
