The Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Abdul-Lateef Abdul Hakeem has given reason there is a peaceful co-existence in the State to the cordial relationship established and promoted by the State Government among the adherent of the different religious beliefs, reports ITRealms.

Receiving the Special Representative for Religion and Global Affairs at the United States Department of States, Shaun Casey and the Political/Economic Section Chief, United States Consulate General, Thomas Hines who paid a courtesy visit to his Office at Alausa, Ikeja, Hon. Hakeem said that religious crisis cannot occur if such cordiality is maintained.

Hon. Abdul Hakeem also said, State Government has identified religion as a vehicle through which peaceful co-existence could be maintained within the State and has accorded the leaders of the two major religions, Islam and Christianity, the status of developmental partners in the State.

According to him, government expects leaders of these two bodies to serve the dual roles of spiritual rejuvenators and influencers of government policy on religion in their respective places of worship.

“The State Government believes that the integration of religious leaders as development partners in Government policy formulation and execution will expedite quick acceptance of government’s plans and programmes by followers of various religious bodies because of the respect and reverence they have for their leaders”, the Commissioner explained.

Dell extends open networking software range to new Dell OS10

The Vice President and General Manager at Dell Networking and Enterprise Infrastructure, Tom Burns, said the company has extended its open networking software range with newly introduced Operating System (OS) 10 from Dell Networking, a next-generation networking software designed to introduce new levels of software flexibility and programmability in large-scale data centre environments, reports ITRealms.

Mr. Burns also said, the OS10 platform has been designed around new benchmarks for open software modularity so users could create the most efficient and flexible paths across networked systems.

“Modern, software-defined, data centers require a fresh approach to operations – not just for the network, but across compute and storage elements as well. OS10 gives customers a future-ready springboard to innovate their networks and data center infrastructure more quickly and consistently, affording customers greater efficiency and capability at scale,” he said.

Dell’s OS10, he said, comprises a base module and various optional application modules. The OS10 Base Module is available for free and runs a fully-open, unmodified Linux distribution.

The OS 10 Base Module, he explained, employs the Open Compute Project Switch Abstraction Interface (SAI) that enables a common, programmer-friendly language between vendor network operating systems and the particular silicon residing on the physical switch.

On top of the base module, OS10 can support traditional networking functions (L2/L3 protocols) from Dell as well as numerous third-party, native Linux, and open source applications such as IP, fabric and security services combined with management and automation tools. This allows customers to tailor IT operations for different use case and operational processes.

OS10’s unmodified Linux base provides distinct advantages as customers increasingly look to design applications and data centers across server, storage and networking – not just one silo. While OS10 will have appeal for traditional network operators seeking conventional programming means, the software will also appeal to DevOps communities seeking a consistent, common development environment across server, storage and networking elements.

Shittu suspends Peter Jack, DG NITDA over misconduct

The Minister of Communications, Mr. Adebayo Shittu has suspended the Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mr. Peter Jack over an alleged misconduct, just as Dr. Vincent Olatunji has been appointed in acting capacity with immediate effect, reports ITRealms.

The Special Assistant Media to the Communications Minister, Mr. Vcitor Oluwadamilare confirmed this to ITRealms in a press statement Wednesday evening, saying that Mr. Jack’s suspension from office was indefinitely.

He explained that the suspension adduces its strength from avalanche of petitions in NITDA and subsequent preliminary findings of an Investigative Committee set up by the Ministry.

Oluwadamilare also said that these petitions against Mr. Jack are largely connected to illegal employments and procurements carried out allegedly in direct contraventions of civil service rules and procedure in the country.

Also, he explained that some of the findings of the Investigative Committee made up of three senior Ministry officials include unauthorised recruitment exercise of additional staff numbering 245 within the last seven months.

“As at 29th May 2015, NITDA only had a staff complement of 74. But from May, 2015 to 31st December, 2015, additional 245 staff were employed in questionable circumstances despite clear instruction from the Ministry directing suspension of employment in the agency,” the SA declared. 

He further said that these disclosures were deduced from the records provided by Mr. Jack, while he was unable to provide concrete evidence on whose authority the recruitment was embarked on and who granted him the authority for officials to be seconded to NITDA from other Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs).

ITRealms gathered that the Ministry of Communications reportedly directed Mr. Jack to eschew the purported recruitment exercise held on 17th December, 2015, which was not adhered to under his leadership as Director-General.

In addition, he said, on alleged financial misdemeanour, the Committee had recommended the suspension to afford a thorough professional auditing of NITDA’s finances to determine the true state of the financial health of the agency.

In a related development, the Director, Corporate Strategy and Research, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, who has spent over 14 years in NITDA has been named the acting Director-General of the agency also with immediate effect, pending the outcome of the intended investigations.

Hon. Adedoyin decries Jebba-Mokwa road, says its a national disaster

The Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the Army, Hon. Funke Adedoyin, has decried the state of the Jebba-Mokwa Road, describing it as a national disaster, ITRealms reports.

Speaking in Ilorin, capital of Kwara State on Wednesday, when she led a delegation of the Committee on the Army on a courtesy visit to the State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, at the Government House, Hon. Adedoyin said the road requires an urgent reconstruction.

The federal lawmaker said the deplorable state of the road had caused loss of lives and properties as it is a major link road between the Northern and Southern parts of the country.

Princess Adedoyin promised to liaise with the House of Representatives Committee on Works on how to ensure that the road receives urgent Federal Government attention to halt carnage on it.

The House Committee Deputy Chair commended the state government for what she called the excellent relationship between it and the Army and other security forces.

She said the 22 Armoured Brigade Cantonment at Sobi in Ilorin occupies a strategic position in its operations, which covers Kwara State and parts of the neighbouring state of Niger.

Gov. Ahmed in his response, said he had made several presentations at the National Economic Council and other fora of the Federal Government on the need for reconstruction of the Jebba-Mokwa Road.

Ahmed promised greater partnership with the Nigeria Army and other security agencies on security in the state. 

Further, he said the nation must tackle its security challenges in parts of the country and commended the members of the House of Representatives on the Army for their active disposition to the promotion of the welfare of the Nigerian Army.

According to Airtel, airtime recharge between N100 - N199 will give a customer one point, while N200 – N499 recharge will earn a customer 3 points. A recharge between N500 - N999 will give customer 10 points, while N1000 – 4999 will get customer 25 points.

“To get 60 points, customers need airtime recharge of N5000 and above. Bundle subscriptions such as Talkmore, Premier Connect, data bundle, Android bundle, SMS bundle, International or Roaming bundle gets 10 points each” Airtel said.

With just Access Money Registration or MAMO fulfillment of bundles, a customer can score 20 points, while a transaction on Access Money, MAMO call in, use of extra credit or Value Added Subscriptions like Magic Voice, Airtel Radio earns a subscriber 10 points each.
