The Green Power Solutions, led by Executive Director Tomas Persson, has launched its BioCharPE, a revolutionary plastic recycling system that operates entirely independent of the power grid, reports ITREALMS.

The innovation was born out of necessity after the company's recycling partner in Lusaka, Castro Shanobe, endured nearly 18 months without reliable electricity.

Nigeria, a nation experiencing the twin problems of population explosion and urbanisation, is at the crossroads in its battle against environmental degradation. One of the most widespread threats is plastic pollution, particularly that of single-use plastics (SUPs), which clog water bodies, contaminate soil, and pose a serious public health risk.

Throughout Nigeria, there is a growing awareness of environmental issues today. Many states are waking up to the grim realities of plastic pollution. A number of states are now banning single-use plastics. While it is a commendable first step, it’s largely contentious.

The NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited (NSML) has launched its Clean Waterways Initiative, a programme to raise awareness of the dangers of plastic pollution and to advocate for action to address the issue.

Speaking on the initiative, the Chief Executive Officer of NSML, Mr Abdulkadir Ahmed, highlighted the urgency of the plastic crisis and its detrimental effects on economic activities, human health, and the environment.

The world is in a struggle with plastic. It can't seem to do without it and definitely can't live with it. It litters the landscape, cloaks the drains and gutters and fills the canals, rivers and oceans. The UN says 'the world is choking on plastic' and National Geographic says 'the world is drowning in plastic'.

Plastic is in almost everything. It is nearly everywhere. It is the true definition of ubiquitous. Experts concede that plastic waste is one of the major challenges to the environment and human existence. Indeed, plastics hold the world in a vice-like grip. It is impossible to escape plastic. Plastic waste is a plague.
