The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is keen at ensuring that the nation fully participates in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) as drivers and innovators, reports ITREALMS.

The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, ITREALMS gathered, gave this insight in a keynote he delivered virtually to the 3rd Discourse Series of the Advocaat Law Practice held on Thursday.

Edo State keen in addressing teachers shortage, applauds Igbanke Forum

The government of Edo State has said it’s taking decisive steps to solve the problem of shortage of teachers in some schools in the state, applauding the efforts Igbanke Unity Forum (IUF) on improving education in the community, reports ITRealms.

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, made this disclosure at Igbanke in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state, when Igbanke Unity Forum (IUF), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), donated 4,500 branded exercise books to three schools in the area, at the weekend.

Governor Obaseki, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Christopher Adesotu, said though the shortage of school teachers was not peculiar to Igbanke, the state government has set the machinery in motion to address the matter.

He said his administration appreciates the partnership with NGOs, corporate bodies, and old students’ associations, adding that such collaboration helps in checking the challenges in the educational sector.

Adesotu said Obaseki’s administration has a strong commitment to revamp basic education in the state, and lauded the philanthropic gesture of IUF members in giving back to their community.

Spokesman for the group, Edomaruse Collins said the forum has over 4,000 members spread across the world and its membership is open to indigenes of Igbanke only.

“IUF embarked on this project as a deliberate move to support your government’s bold steps so far taken to revamp the state’s basic education. No government, no matter how benevolent, can single-handedly provide all the educational needs of its citizens”.

He said members of the IUF are motivated to contribute their quota to the development of schools in Igbanke because they were uncomfortable with the state of some of the schools.

He said the books are for three schools in Igbanke, which include, Igbanke Grammar School; Igbanke Mixed Secondary School and Omolua Mixed Secondary School.

He appealed to the state government to fix the decrepit school buildings as well as address the shortage of teachers in the three schools as the ratio of teachers to students was not encouraging.

NCC keen on strategic partnership – Danbatta

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said it would continue to partner with governments at all levels and other stakeholders in its bid to move the telecom industry forward, reports ITRealms.

The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), NCC, Prof Umar Garba Danbatta made this disclosure at the investment forum of Kaduna State Government, KADINVEST 2.0, Danbatta also noted that the symposium struck a chord with NCC’s strategic vision.

“I would like to congratulate Kaduna State people through his Excellency Governor Nasiru El-Rufai for organizing this timely and commendable forum,” he said.

The Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) has just rated NCC top in the country in terms of institutional work processes.

Director General of BPSR, Dr. Joe Abah who presented a report and plaque to Danbatta recently in Abuja noted that robust business organizational structure, policies and practices that facilitate effective and efficient service delivery were some of the high points which informed the agency’s decision.

He listed accountabilities and responsibilities for set Standardized Operating Procedure (SOP) manuals of the Commission’s 19 departments.

Accurate measurement of Responsibilities and Performance assigned to staff were the parameters for the evaluation of the Commission.

In terms of governance, the Bureau said “NCC strategic objectives are prioritized for potential impact using standardized principles including the balanced score card.”.

Lagos, keen on capacity development - Ayorinde

The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, has declared that one of the cardinal direction of Governor Ambode-led administration is to invest in capacity development of government officials who are major stakeholders in articulating his plans, programmes and policies for the development of the State, reports ITRealms.

Ayorinde said that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is specifically interested in the way and manner activities of the government is communicated to Lagosians including people at the grassroots and would continue to support the Public Affairs Officers in honing their skills to help in achieving the objective for better service delivery.

The commissioner made this known today while declaring open the second stream of the retreat programme organized for Public Affairs Officers in the employ of the government held at Golden Tulip Hotel, Amuwo Odofin.

Speaking on the rationale behind the change in nomenclature from Public Relations Officers to Public Affairs Officers, the Commissioner said the government expects public involvement in information management in line with the pledge made by the Governor during his inaugural address to run a government of inclusion.

He called for improved commitment to duty from the officers urging them to go extra miles in gathering information that would project the state government better and also benefit members of the public.

Giving the overview of the retreat, the Director of Public Affairs in the Ministry, Mrs. Adetoro  Oladapo said that the programme was organized to boost the capacity of officers especially with their new nomenclature, standardize public affairs practice, provide opportunity for officers to network and also jointly provide solutions to challenges confronting them.

According to her, the theme for the retreat ‘'Public Sector Information Management in Challenging Times'’ was deliberately chosen to equip the officers with needed skills to communicate government activities to the diverse residents of the State.
