The Indigenous People of Niger Delta (IPND) has declared that the level of harassment and intimidation, and threat to lives of Ndigbo in Lagos is a declaration of war against their people, warning Yoruba warmongers that their peaceful nature and hospitality should not be taken for cowardice, reports ITREALMS.

President General, Indigenous People of Niger Delta (IPND), Tiemo Pumokumo made this known and warned the definition of the Ndigbo in those attacks were targeted at non-indigenes of both South-East and South South among citizens from other parts of the country outside Yoruba land.

CCB launches Online Asset Declaration System for civil servants - ITREALMS

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has launched an Online Assets Declaration System (OADS), reports ITREALMS.

The Chairman Code of Conduct Bureau, (CCB) Prof. Isah Muhammad confirmed this to ITREALMS at a stakeholder session, stressing that specifically OADS would encourage public servants to declare their assets as at when due.

He also said that OADS was created to ease the rigours involved in assets declaration by public servants and to avert corrupt practices in the public sectors.

This measure, he told ITREALMS is in line with the review of the Bureau laws by the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) 2017 to 2021 to ensure that the anti-corruption drive of President Mohammadu Buhari’s campaign is sustained.

Also he said the forum was to sensitize stakeholders on the efforts made so far by the Bureau which have yielded positive results with the new initiative.

As said by him, “Technology advancement has been prominent for the past two decades. Today, the world is transforming from analogue systems to electronic processes to enhance efficiency and better results. Therefore, the Bureau is doing everything possible to ensure administrative bottleneck is reduced to the barest minimum which will further instill transparency and confidence in our process".

CCB, he equally said, has put in place careful strategies and efforts to ensure this initiatives succeeds.

In addition, he promised that the Bureau will not relent in efforts to curb corruption in the public sector and will not rest in commitments to achieving CCB's mandates.

Prof. Muhammad pointed out that the Bureau is ready to entertain contributions from stakeholders to ensure the country's global corruption index ranking improves and the administration's objective of a corruption free public sector is ultimately achieved collectively. The soft spoken Prof. of Law noted that the CCB is building stakeholders synergies that will further help win the nation's anti corruption fight.

In his remarks, the Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency, (NITDA), Mr Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, emphasised that considering the enormous nature of the mandate of the Bureau and work done so far by the CCB and the demand of keeping the records of over five million public workers, "there is the need for all stakeholders to support the Bureau in order to enable them proactively tackle corruption in the country."

Abdullahi maintained that the new initiatives of OADS by the Bureau would enable public servants to declare assets from the comfort of their offices or homes and for the Bureau to have all public servants records intact hence NITDA was partnering them to build the right capacities and appropriate technology use to achieve the government's desires.

He however advised the CCB to adopt emerging technologies like blockchain, cloud computing, geo mapping, and other cutting edge technologies for proper documentations, litigations, integration to other services.

According to the NITDA Director-General, CCB's adoption of Online Asset Declaration is a further testament of NITDA's quest to ensure e-Government services. 

“I urged the Bureau to go ahead with this project. As a regulatory agency, we are going to give you all the necessary supports to make sure you succeed on this project,” he said.

He further admonished the CCB to ensure they make the application easier for people to have access to fill necessary information.

Also at the event, the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan, represented by Senator (Dr) Ayo Akinyelure commended the CCB for undertaking this novel initiative. He also applauded the partnership with the European Union (EU) Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (ROJAC) project, saying it will no doubt aid in the fight against corruption in Nigeria.

“The campaign against corruption is certainly not a days job. Problems that have eaten deep into the fabric of nations are always challenging to tackle. This is why we have to be meticulous in approaching it from the point of view of awareness creation and through the criminal justice system," he said.

Senator Lawan stressed that the bigger focus on the National Anti-Corruption strategy has given the country the opportunity to adopt tactics from different positions and these tactics will add up to tackling the menace. “I am confident that curbing or eliminating corruption is only a matter of time, going by the synergy of purpose. I do know that this is not an easy task to achieve but with collaborations such as this with relevant multi-lateral organisations like the European Union, United Nations, amongst others, it can only remain a boost and an added advantage", he emphasized. The Senator then called on the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to consciously pay attention to improve the funding and budgetary provision of the principal anti corruption agencies in other to help them meet up with their set mandates.

Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) is an anti-corruption agency established in 1979. It is the first anti-corruption agency that was setup in Nigeria with the core aim of battling corruption in the Nigerian public service.

Rivers youths allege INEC officials thumb printing for PDP

Watchful youths in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, have allegedly caught some people suspected to be officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) thumb printing at the Commission’s office, three days after the declaration of the results of the Presidential and National Assembly elections, reports ITRealms.

The youths, ITRealms gathered acted on a tip off and were able to video the officials and others that supervised the thumb printing; which further cripples the claim by INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega that there was no substantial evidence to cancel the elections in Rivers State.

Speaking on anonymity, one of the officials disclosed that the mass thumb printing, days after the election, was to justify the results tendered and provide evidence in preparation for tribunal.

The ballot papers from the March 28 Presidential and National Assembly elections were allegedly sponsored by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members.

This, ITRealms reports, is coming at a time the people of the area are mourning the yet to be investigated murder of three APC supporters in cold blood; one of them killed by a soldier.

Prof. Attahiru Jega, Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had during the collation of votes of the March 28 elections admitted results, which indicated that PDP scored 1,487,075 to APC’s 69,238 votes from Rivers State.

The INEC boss claimed that there was no substantial evidence to cancel election results in Rivers State, based on the report of an investigative committee that visited Port Harcourt, but acknowledged administrative deficiencies during the conduct of the polls.

The APC in Rivers State challenged Jega’s claims, observing that “even a child will not believe that a state like Rivers, controlled by the party, that it would record less than 70, 000 votes without a single candidate as against the opposition party scoring over 1.4 million”.

The party questioned the rationale behind the said investigative committee meeting with only Gesila Khan, Rivers REC, in whom it had long lost confidence and perhaps the PDP being principally the parties whose misconduct it was meant to investigate.

Senator Magnus Abe, Rivers South-East Senatorial candidate of the APC who received the electoral materials from the Khana youths urged the CID unit of the police to commence a full scale investigation and prosecute the INEC and police officials involved in the fraud.

“As you can see before me are INEC ballot papers from Khana. At about 12noon (Thursday), youths stumbled on some INEC officials in their office in Bori, where they brought in presiding officers and supervisors to thumbprint ballot papers and doctored results all in favour of PDP” he said.

“I called the Area Commander, Bori and the DPO who told me the INEC officials were in Bori to collect their stipends on the last elections; I called CP Karma, who asked me to report the matter to the CID; I decided to inform the Nigerian public before proceeding to the police CID” Senator Abe said.

He also called on the INEC chairman, Prof. Jega to urgently effect the redeployment of the Rivers State REC, Gesila Khan before the April 11 governorship elections for showing executive recklessness in collaboration with PDP and the police and sued for the cancellation of the concocted elections, insisting that the votes counted in favour of the PDP were not cast by Rivers people.
