FG pleads with Nigerians, says ‘We’re working hard to relieve your pains’

The Federal Government has said it is keenly aware of the difficulties that Nigerians are currently facing over the lingering fuel scarcity and poor power supply, and that it is working round the clock to provide the relief for the citizenry.

''As a government that was propelled into office by the power of the people, we cannot but feel the pains of our compatriots, and we deeply empathise with them,'' the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said in Abuja on Wednesday.

''Our message to our compatriots is that this Administration, under the able leadership of 

President Muhammadu Buhari, is working round the clock to ease the pains of Nigerians, and that very soon, the efforts of the government will begin to yield fruits for the benefit of Nigerians,'' he said during a visit to the corporate headquarters of Daily Trust newspaper, as part of his tour of media establishments in the country.

Alhaji Mohammed said the Government is aware that Nigerians have started questioning the genuiness of its Change Agenda, adding: ''We understand the skepticism of Nigerians in questioning whether this indeed is the change they voted for. I can tell Nigerians that our Change Agenda is real, and that indeed Nigerians will get the change they voted for.''

On the fuel situation, the Minister said immediate measures are being taken to end the scarcity while medium and long term solutions are being worked out to prevent a recurrence.

''Petroleum supply and distribution have been ramped up across the country by the NNPC to ensure product availability in the country, but repeated trips to filling stations and the backlog are making it impossible to immediate feel the impact

''Monitoring has also been intensified to ensure full compliance with approved prices. 

Violations of approved prices and hoarding of petroleum products attract severe penalties, including ‎giving  out of petroleum products free to the public, sealing off of fuel stations found to be hoarding petroleum products, payment of fine as well as withdrawal of Marketer’s License,'' he said.

Alhaji Mohammed said that in the medium term, the supply constraints due to foreign exchange challenges are being resolved through collaboration with the Central Bank of 

Nigeria on innovative ways of closing the gaps in accessing foreign exchange.

Lagos, others asked to emulate Anambra State on social media deployment

The acclaimed government of centre of excellence, Lagos State, and other states in the country, have been asked to emulate Anambra State in the deployment of social media platforms to engage the citizenry, reports ITRealms.

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on social media, Mr. Ifeanyi Aniagoh gave this change in Lagos at the 2016 West Africa Bloggers Conference at the weekend, saying that in Anambra, they have specially created several programmes online to enlighten and engage the citizens.

“This can happen in Lagos. This can happen anywhere,” he declared.

This could take off with the appointment of focused advocate to be in-charge of social media as visible in Anambra State.

He cited for instance that on Twitter, Anambra State Government has launched “#TweetAnambra”, a daily 2 hours of constant tweets aimed at sharing the events of the day to the Twitter community.

On WhatsApp, he said, the government of Anambra State has a grassroots network of 32,600 persons through which Ndi Anambra are directly informed and feedback received for improved efficiency and better service delivery.

Similarly, on YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram, Aniagoh said, Anambra State Government maintains significant communication channels resulting to its trending status since the swearing-in of Chief Willie Obiano as the governor in 2014, with focus on his “4Cs Approach” namely “Continue, Complete, Commission and Commence.”

Pointing out that through cyberspace the people are rightly informed about the feats of the current administration of Gov. Obiano.

“Through Social Media the people contribute to the democratic process, constructively engaging the government and effectively participating in policy development; through online platforms the government access direct feedback from the governed,” he said.

How Mrs Maduagwu emerged Anambra Speaker

The Speaker of the sixth Anambra House of Assembly, Mrs Rita Maduagwu, Friday, emerged in the State capital, Awka with a pledge to make sure synergy exist between the two arms of government so as to usher in better life for citizenry, reports ITRealms.

Speaking after her inauguration, Hon. Mrs. Maduagwu assured the people of her readiness and commitment to uphold the principles of democracy and rule of law to ensure the realisation of the four cardinal objectives of the governor.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the new speaker was nominated by Mr Ilkem Uzoezie, representing Aguata II constituency and the lawmakers unanimously adopted the motion.

“The cardinal objectives of the governor which are industralisation, agriculture, commerce, oil and gas when fully achieved will place the state in high level and investors will throng our state for development,” the new speaker said.

The Clerk to the House, Mr Pius Udoh, administered the oath of allegiance on the new speaker. Mr Halford Oseke (APGA Awka South 2) was also unanimously elected the Deputy Speaker.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that out of the 30-member house, 17 are newly elected, while 13 were re-elected, as 26 of them are men, while four are women; Even as the election of principal officers of the house will be conducted on a future date.
