Soludo for Realnews Magazine 3rd lecture

Renowned economist and former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo has been confirmed to give the third anniversary lecture of Realnews Magazine, slated for Lagos at Oriental Hotel, reports ITRealms.

Confirming this to ITRealms, the publisher, Realnews Magazine and Publications Limited, Maureen Chigbo, said plans have been advanced to ensure the successful third anniversary lecture on Thursday, November 19, 2015. 

She said the choice of Prof. Soludo as the lecturer of this year is aligns with Realnews focus on the current doldrums, just as all the economic indices in the country now ranging from depleting foreign reserve, depreciating value of the naira, the double digit interest rates, high rate of unemployment especially amongst youth to inflation rate which is now on the increase show that there is need for a rethink of the economic direction Nigeria is heading, especially in this new civilian administration that most Nigerians want change.

She explained that immediately after the lecture, a panel of discussants would leverage on it to speak on how the manufacturing sector, the real estate sector and the management of national debt could contribute to dig the Nigerian economy out of its current doldrums amidst the dwindling revenue from the sale of crude oil at the international market. 
 
The panelists, she said, include Mr. Gimba Ya’u Kumo, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Remi Ogunmefun, Director General of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and Abraham Nwankwo, Director General, Debt Management Office. 

“Both the lecturer and all of the panelists have confirmed their attendance at the event,” she said.
Chigbo further said that the Special Guest of Honour is Senator Chris Ngige, former Governor of Anambra State and minister designate, while the chairman of the occasion is Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, Founder/Chief Executive Officer of Alpine Investments Services Limited. 

Chigbo noted that Hayatu-Deen, former managing director of the defunct FSB International Bank is one of the moving spirits behind the Nigerian Economic Summit. 

“They have also confirmed their attendance,” she said.

After the panel and interactive session, there will be an investiture of prominent Nigerians into the prestigious Realnews Hall of Fame, exclusively reserved for only Guest Speakers, Discussants, Book Reviewers and Chairpersons at our Anniversary Lecture Series.

Those to be inducted into the Realnews Hall of Fame are Professor Maurice Iwu, former chairman of INEC, Mr. Roberts Orya, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Export Import Bank (NEXIM), Dr. Ngozi Anyaegbunam, President, Media World, Mr. Benjamin Dikki, Director General, Bureau of Public Enterprises and Professor Joe. I. Ezigbo, Managing Director, Falcon Corporation Limited.

“They (inductees) all played key roles during our second anniversary Lecture and the induction into the Realnews Hall of Fame is just a token of our appreciation for the honour they did to Realnews Magazine and Publications Limited last year,” said Maureen Chigbo.

Chigbo equally said that the second volume of the Paragon of Journalism, co-edited by her and the late Mike Akpan, publisher/editor and editor-in-chief of Realnews magazine, respectively, will be presented at the event.  

Realnews, a general interest magazine, is an online publication which thrives on investigative journalism debuted November 19, 2012.

Etisalat, DigitalSENSE present prizes to national essay competition winners

Two innovation-driven companies; Etisalat Nigeria and DigitalSENSE Africa Media, Friday, at Oriental Hotel, Lagos presented prizes to the winners of the 2015 Nigeria DigitalSENSE Essay Competition, ITRealms reports.
The essay competition which focused  this year was on Net Neutrality and Nigerian Internet Users was non-restrictive, non-discriminatory, and designed for Nigerian students between the ages of 18 and 30.
The Head, Environmental Compliance and Corporate Affairs, Etisalat Nigeria, Seyi Osunsede, in her keynote, said that Etisalat naturally aligns with DigitalSENSE Africa Media because of her innovations and creativity, emphasizing that innovation changes the word.
Representing the Vice President, Etisalat Nigeria, Mr. Ibrahim Dikko, Seyi said the essay competition is another way of encouraging innovation by the Etisalat in partnership with DigitalSENSE.
The Etisalat-DigitalSENSE Students Essay Competition, was organized by the DigitalSENSE Africa (DSA) Media in partnership with Etisalat Nigeria, the essay competition was conceptualized in 2012 to encourage young men and women to make research on issues of the Internet and come up with innovative ideas to move the industry forward.
The Executive Director, Operations, DSA, Mrs Nkemdilim Nweke, said the essay competition is part of this year’s annual Nigeria DigitalSENSE Forum (NDSF) on Internet Governance for Development (IG4D) which has the theme “ Net Neutrality and Nigerian Internet Users,” adding that it was designed to motivate the youth  to explore opportunities on the internet as there are limitless positive benefits therein.
The Group Executive Editor (GEE) and Lead Strategist, DSA, Mr. Remmy Nweke, said the company would continue to partner with Etisalat, being an innovative company. He underscored the fact that the criteria for assessment was based on understanding of the topic which is Internet Governance for Development and the topic for the year.
This, he said should be anchored on the Nigerian environment, stressing that overall presentation is equally key to the general assessment, adding that the essay must be limited to 600 words, emphasizing that for now the essay is meant for Nigerian undergraduates even though secondary school students were not disenfranchised as long as they are upto 18 of age.
The GEE stated that apart from the prizes, the Star prize winner, for instance, had the opportunity of participating in the Nigeria Internet Governance for Forum (NIGF) as Etisalat-DigitalSENSE Student Ambassador.
One of the judges for the essay competition, Mrs Yetunde Johnson, Chief Executive Officer, Slingshot Technologies, said the importance of the competition cannot be overemphasized  as the students will be decision makers tomorrow, hence the need for them to know the fundamentals of the subject matter through competitions like Etisalat-DigitalSENSE Students Essay.
The Star prize winner of the 2015 Etisalat-DigitalSENSE Students Essay Competition, Nicodemus Onah, is a 100 Level Electronic Engineering student of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), went home with a laptop; the second prize also went to another UNN student studying English and Literature, Mr. Kizito Chijioke Onah who won a Tablet,  while the third prize went to Blessing Oghenetijiri Ekpobadarho, a 400 Level student of Niger Delta University in Bayelsa State who was unavoidably absent due to logistics problems.
Her prize, a high grade smart phone will be presented to her next week Thursday in Lagos.
Receiving the award, Kizito thanked Etisalat and DigitalSENSE for their innovation and said he is happy with what he won. He also said that by 13th of next month he will be going to Abuja for an NCC organized  essay competition as a finalist.
While the Star Prize winner Nicodemus said the prize is just one out of many essay awards, noting that in 2012 he emerged a finalist in the United Bank for Africa organized essay for secondary school students.

TITANS OF TECH marks ten years of constructive operation




The 10th anniversary of the prestigious Titans of Tech conference and exhibition has been scheduled to hold on July 22, 2015 at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, ITRealms reports.

Don Pedro Aganbi, Managing Consultant, Technology Africa, noted in a chat with news men in Lagos, that “in today’s modern society, information communication technology (ICT) continues to play an increasingly significant role in the development of any nation culturally, socially and economically”.

Speaking further, ITRealms learnt, he stated that “The theme of this year’s conference “How ICT Powers Nigeria’s Economy” was chosen specifically to highlight the fact that ICT has become a key driver of economic growth over the past decade.” He noted that the rapid diffusion of the Internet, of mobile telephony and of broadband networks all demonstrate just how pervasive ICT has become.

He said that the Titans of Tech 2015 conference will go a long way not just to boost awareness of how ICT is changing the economic landscape but also the key players/operators making the investments that is precipitating this change. The conference, ITRealms gathered, will afford participating firms and individuals the ample opportunities to reveal the extent of their investment in Nigeria and to highlight the urgent need to actively protect and indeed promote further investment.

The ICT enthusiast noted that the four components of the tenth anniversary celebration of the Titans of Technology project are: Nigeria ICT Youth Summit, Finance ICT Breakfast Summit (FIBS), E-Government Roundtable and Titans of Technology Awards & Gala Nite.
Participants at the high-octane forum ITRealms learnt, include local and International 

Infrastructure Providers firms, policy makers in Government including Ministry of Information and Communications, Ministry of Science & Technology, National Assembly, Nigerian Communications Commission, NITDA, Ministry of Education, among other stakeholders.
