The Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, has strongly condemned a late-night attack on the Chairman of the Accord Party for Osogbo Local Government, Hon. Asimiyu Ajibola (popularly known as Baba Isila), reports ITREALMS.

The politician and his companions narrowly escaped death on Wednesday night after being targeted by unidentified gunmen in what state officials describe as an attack with "political colorations." Hon. Ajibola is currently on the danger list, battling for his life at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.

The violent assault occurred at approximately 9:50 PM around the Osogbo Community Bank axis of MDS, a prominent commercial area in the Osun State capital.

According to eyewitness accounts from one of the co-occupants of the vehicle, a blue Toyota Corolla; the assailants opened fire in a highly coordinated, commando-style operation.

"We were driving from the MDS area last night when, out of nowhere, gun-wielding men chased us down and unleashed a volley of bullets at our car," one of the survivors recounted.

Despite the vehicle being riddled with bullets, the driver managed to speed away from the line of fire, heading straight to the Dugbe Divisional Police Headquarters in Osogbo for emergency protection. The move forced the gunmen to retreat and flee the scene.

After filing an emergency report with the police, the survivors rushed the severely wounded Accord Party Chairman to the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, where medical teams are currently working to stabilize his condition.

Reacting swiftly to the incident, the Osun State Government, through the Ministry of Information, has directed security agencies to launch an immediate, uncompromising investigation into the ambush.

Commissioner Oluomo Kolapo Alimi warned that such brazen acts of violence threaten the peace of the state and must not be swept under the carpet.

Professional Investigation: The state government is calling on the Osun State Police Command to handle the investigation professionally, without fear or favor.

Political Undertones: The administration explicitly noted that initial indices point to a targeted, politically motivated hit.

Justice Delayed is Justice Denied: The government insists the perpetrators and their sponsors must be brought to book swiftly to deter future lawlessness.

"This is a highly unfortunate incident that cannot go uninvestigated," Alimi stated in an official press release. "We must unearth the masterminds of this dastardly act and ensure they face the full wrath of the law."
