The Nigerian telecommunications community has extended its condolences to the Publicity Secretary of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), Barrister Sir Damian Udeh (KSM), following the passing of his father, Barr. Sir Matthew Orji Udeh (KSJI, KSS), reports ITREALMS.

The late patriarch, a highly respected legal mind and community leader, passed away at the age of 94, as disclosed in an official funeral announcement made available to ITREALMS.

Born in 1932, Barr. Sir Matthew Orji Udeh lived a distinguished life of service spanning over nine decades before his demise in 2026.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Caroline E. Udeh, and several prominent children, including the ALTON publicist and Director at IHS Nigeria, Barrister Sir Damian Udeh, as well as grandchildren and extended family members.

According to the funeral schedule released by the family and signed by the ALTON Publicity Secretary (popularly known as Gburugburu Ikezuagu), a series of events have been lined up to celebrate the impactful life of the nonagenarian:

Friday, 10th July 2026: A Valedictory Session will be held in his honour at the Enugu High Court, Independence Layout, at 10:00 AM.

Thursday, 16th July 2026: A Wake Keep will take place at No. 7, Umuome Avenue, Umuome Inyi, Oji River Local Government Area (L.G.A.), starting at 6:00 PM.

Friday, 17th July 2026: The body will Lie in State at the family residence by 8:00 AM, followed by a Requiem Mass at Sacred Heart Parish, Umuome Inyi, at 11:00 AM. Internment follows immediately at his residence.

Sunday, 19th July 2026: A Thanksgiving Mass will wrap up the funeral rites at the Sacred Heart Parish, Umuome Inyi.

The family noted that a reception for guests will take place immediately after the burial at the Central School Field.

As news of the transition filters through the tech and telecom ecosystem, sector stakeholders, operators, and media colleagues have begun rallying around Sir Damian Udeh, commending the legacy of his late father who clearly passed the torch of legal excellence down to his children.

The late legal icon's contributions to the judiciary and the church evidenced by his prestigious knighthood titles (KSJI, KSS), remain a source of pride to the entire Udeh family.
