VP Shettima unveils Maj. Gen. Yusuf’s book on Northeast Counterterrorism Operations - ITREALMS

Security experts, senior military officers, diplomats, and top government officials are set to converge in the nation's capital for the public presentation of a definitive two-volume book documenting Nigeria’s counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations in the North-East, reports ITREALMS.

The publication, titled Counterterrorism and Counterinsurgency Operations in Northeast Nigeria, is authored by Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf (rtd), the former Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and past Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA). 

The high-profile event is scheduled to take place today, May 21, at the Sani Abacha Hall, National Defence College, Abuja, drawing together the key architects of Nigeria's defense infrastructure.

Vice President Kashim Shettima will headline the gathering as the Special Guest of Honour and Chief Unveiler. 

He will be joined by state governors, members of the National Assembly, the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, and a distinguished cohort of retired military leaders, scholars, and international diplomats. 

According to the organizing committee, the book presentation serves as a critical, unblinking recording of the operational insights, lived experiences, and strategic lessons learned from years of frontline campaigns against Boko Haram and peripheral insurgent factions in the Lake Chad Basin.

To ensure a rigorous interrogation of the text's academic and policy relevance, the publication will be formally reviewed by the Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Professor Eghosa Osaghae. 

His review is expected to examine the historical, strategic, and geopolitical implications of the volumes, offering a standardized transformation of raw battlefield data into actionable defense policy. 

Beyond a standard book launch, the organizers emphasize that the forum aims to deepen national discourse on security sector reforms and evolving military strategies necessary to neutralize asymmetric threats across West Africa. 

Given its profound significance to contemporary defense studies and national history, local and international media organizations have been mobilized to provide comprehensive coverage of this landmark security dialogue.
