The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, has been confirmed as the Special Guest of Honour and Lead Speaker at the 17th edition of the prestigious Africa Beacon of ICT (BoICT) Merit & Leadership Lecture and Awards, reports ITREALMS.
Speaking on the preparations, Ken Nwogbo, Editor-in-Chief of Nigeria CommunicationsWeek, the organizers of the event, disclosed that this year’s edition is centered around the theme: “Digital Transformation.”
According to Nwogbo, the 2026 lecture is strategically designed to critically examine ongoing national and continental efforts aimed at firmly positioning Nigeria on the global ICT map.
"Beyond the keynote insights, the BoICT platform will once again recognize outstanding organizations and visionary individuals across both the ICT and banking sectors for their invaluable contributions to digital transformation and sustainable economic development," Nwogbo stated.
As the helmsman of the NCC, Dr. Maida oversees the regulation, development, and strategic direction of Nigeria’s massive telecommunications industry.
Nwogbo noted that under Maida’s forward-thinking leadership, the commission has aggressively implemented initiatives geared toward enhancing consumer experience, strengthening last-mile telecom infrastructure, and fostering critical inter-agency collaborations; most notably with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to combat financial fraud.
Dr. Maida brings a wealth of high-level technical expertise to the forum. He holds a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bath, United Kingdom.
Prior to his appointment at the NCC, he served as the Executive Director of Technology and Operations at the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), where he successfully led the standardization of technical and operational systems across Nigeria’s e-payment ecosystem.
His robust career also includes stints as Chief Technical Officer at Arca Payments Network and senior engineering roles at Cisco Systems in the UK.
By leading this year's discourse, Dr. Maida joins an elite roster of trailblazers who have graced the BoICT lecture stage in previous years.
