Former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will headline the inaugural edition of the Nigerian Content Academy Lecture Series launched by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) to deepen discourse and strategic thinking around local content growth in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, reports ITREALMS.
According to the Director of the Nigerian Content Academy, Dr. Ama Ikuru, the series aims to bring together key stakeholders to review progress, reimagine implementation, and shape critical conversations around the Nigerian Content mandate. He noted that the sessions would be “thought-provoking and impactful,” blending virtual and physical lectures to accommodate a wide range of participants, including operators, regulators, and policy influencers.
The first lecture will be delivered virtually on Thursday, October 9, 2025, by Dr. Ernest Nwapa, the pioneer Executive Secretary of NCDMB, on the topic “Staying the Nigerian Content Course in the Midst of Delivery Challenges.” The second session, on October 16, will feature Mr. Sam Ezugworie, Chief Operating Officer of Seplat Energy Ltd, speaking on “Managing Non-Technical Risks and Local Content Growth in the Oil and Gas Industry.”
Subsequent sessions will feature some of the most influential figures in the energy and corporate landscape. Mrs. Olu Arowolo Verheijen, Special Adviser on Energy to President Bola Tinubu, will speak on November 12 on “Maximizing Nigeria’s Foreign Direct Investments Through Local Content Implementation.” On October 29, Mr. Austin Avuru, Executive Chairman of AA Holdings and former Chief Executive Officer of Seplat Ltd, will deliver a lecture titled “Indigenous Operators as the Pillars for Local Content Growth.”
Culminating the series, former President Jonathan is scheduled to speak on December 10, 2025, addressing the theme “Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act, 2010—15 Years On: Achievements and Way Forward.” The series will close with a presentation by Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, Executive Secretary of NCDMB, on December 18, who will speak on “New Initiatives, New Thinking for Growing Nigerian Content in the Oil and Gas Industry.”
Other notable speakers expected to feature include Mr. Chidi Nkazi, Prof. Mike Onyekwu, Dr. Nosa Omorodion, Barr. Mohammed Umar, Mazi Sam Onyechi, and Prof. Joseph Atubokiki-Ajienka.
