The African Women in Media (AWiM) has officially opened Super Early Bird registration for its highly anticipated AWiM25 Conference, set to take place on December 4-5, 2025, at the African Union Commission (AUC) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, reports ITREALMS.
AWiM25, recognized as the continent's premier annual event dedicated to advancing women's rights through media development, is being held in strategic partnership with the African Union Commission's Women, Gender, and Youth Directorate (WGYD) and the Information and Communication Directorate (ICD).
This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to fostering gender equality within the media sector.
The conference theme directly builds upon the momentum generated by the Kigali Declaration on the Elimination of Gender Violence in and through Media in Africa by 2034.

It also strategically aligns with the recently adopted African Union Convention to End Violence Against Women and Girls (AU-CEVAWG), reinforcing a continent-wide push for stronger protections and accountability.
Ms. Prudence Nonkululeko Ngwenya, Director of the Women, Gender, and Youth Directorate at the AUC, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership:
"We are delighted to partner with AWiM in hosting the AWiM25 conference, whose theme resonates strongly with the African Union Commission’s commitment to addressing violence against women and girls.
"AWiM25 offers an influential platform to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment in and through the media, while also providing a strategic opportunity to rally support for the ratification of the AU-CEVAWG."
In addition, Ngwenya said that this conference will allow participants to reflect on and find strategies to respond to the ongoing pushback on gender equality.
