Death of Dr. Vwaere Diaso: Colleagues blame Lagos State, corruption - ITREALMS

The death of a medical doctor with the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, Dr. Vwaere Diaso, who was killed by a faulty elevator in their residence, has been blamed on the Lagos State government and corruption in the medical facility, reports ITREALMS.

This is coming as students are threatened when they complained with suspension of their license.

Late Dr. Diaso, ITREALMS gathered had died on the night of Monday, August 1, after sustaining critical injuries from being trapped in a protracted faulty-collapsed elevator from the 10th floor on her way to pick her dinner from dispatch rider.

Reacting, her colleagues who have been thrown into mourning, blamed the Lagos State government, the Lagos State Health Management Board and corruption in the facility, saying that her death was avoidable.

One of the colleagues of late Dr. Vwaere identified on social media microblog, Twitter as

@kristeana08, said she was particularly aggrieved because they have been complaining about the faulty elevator.

“Particularly aggrieved because we’ve complained for a long time about this elevator. We’ve maneuvered, managed and prayed each time we had to use it. Empty promises will be made to fix it. ...till it killed one of us💔been totally avoided,” she lamented.

Another source identified as @MsVotie alleged that within the cause of one year of complaint, a doctor tried to speak to a journalist about this elevator, but in order to avoid victimisation, insisted for anonymous.

"He made the journalist to promise he was going to keep him anonymous," MsVotie said, stressing that the journalist tried to reach the Lagos State Commissioner for Health who promised it will be looked into.

"Now person don die inside the elevator," she decried.

Yet, another concerned Nigerian said that whoever was in charge obviously 'ate' the money and the management has been patching it up despite complaints from resident doctors.

ITREALMS gathered that the management of the hospital is still even owing salaries of doctors that worked last year December.

"... But we have no one to fight for us. If you talk, they threaten with license suspension," our source said.
