Wicked genius, Adejoh David, defrauds POS agents using shared hotspot - ITREALMS

A young tech-genius, identified as Adejoh David, has been arrested in Lagos by security operatives for multiple defrauding multiple Point of Sales (POS) agents via shared hotspot, reports 
ITREALMS.
David who was arrested at the weekend where he was chilling with some girls, at Eko Hotel and Suites Victoria Island, disclosed that he carries his fraudulent acts by first approaching any POS agent of choice for cash of N3,000 to be transferred by him via his mobile phone.
 
Also, he reportedly claimed absence of his Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards at every point of cash out.

ITREALMS gathered that on January 29, 2023 at about 2:35pm, David with his BangBet account number 8134576328 was said to have approached a lady POS agent for a N3,000 cash-out transaction only, at a Lagos suburb, which was successful, as he transferred the N3000 for through his mobile device with a borrowed hotspot connection shared by the agent in the name of having ran out of data.

Few minutes later, the POS agent said, she got a One-Time-Password (OTP) request to either accept or decline.

Out of naivety, 
ITREALMS gathered, the lady agent accepted and next alert was a debit of N838,000.00 with a transaction number: 23012913745|3091258.

David’s antics as gathered, was that he would always request for hotspots to conduct the false transfer but ends up hacking into the POS device.

However, luck ran out of him when the matter was reported to the Police and investigation revealed that the money was transferred to a betting account known as Bangbet with account 8134576328.

He was reportedly arrested on the Saturday, February 4th, 2023 at Eko Hotels and Suite Victoria Island, Lagos where he lodged with girls.

In addition, he also confessed to the crime and that its only shared hotspot connection he required to defraud his victims.

Experts, therefore, advisable that with the growing need for technology devices, people should stop sharing hotspots and gadgets especially with strangers.

As at the point of filing this report, the operator of the POS could not be ascertained to know if the POS belonging to any of the Payment Terminal Services Provider in the country.
