14th AGM: NIRA lists achievements in 2021 – ITREALMS

The leadership of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA) has listed its achievements in the 2021 as it held the 14th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Lagos, reports

Outlining some of the achievements Thursday in Lagos, NIRA President, Mr. Muhammed Rudman told participants at the AGM held at NIRA House that within the year under review, that the .NG managers ended with 69,388 newly registered domains, 54,920 renewals and 177,453 active domain names.

He also said that three new registrars were accredited within last one year, while one existing registrar upgraded their category of operation from silver to platinum category.

“We shall continue to acknowledge the efforts of the Accredited Registrars along with their resellers, for making this happen,” he said.

According to Rudman, NIRA generated an income of N301,657,166.00 in 2021, which was 4 per cent higher than the income of 2020 which was N290,959,929.00.

In addition, Rudman said NIRA engaged in brand awareness activities by engaging a marketing agency in the last quarter of 2021 to provide a review of brand performance and support the brand image for the period of three months which spilled into the current year.

He noted that though there are still much work to be done on .ng brand, there was little or no online complaints against the .ng in recent times, stressing that the efforts of the Executive Board in protecting the integrity of the brand is a key priority.

“We can rest assured that the .ng brand is growing footprint one impression at a time,” he declared.

On the corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, he said that NIRA would continue to employ its special purpose vehicles, namely the Ndukwe Kalu Foundation as well as NIRA Academy Resource Centre in giving back to the society.

NIRA Academy, he noted organized some virtual webinars on the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation, Companies and Allied Matters Act, Reseller Entrepreneurship and Registrar Technical Skills to enlighten its members on various workings of domain name industry.

ITREALMS gathered that the well-attended 14th AGM was a hybrid, which means it was held both onsite and virtually simultaneously and attracted some key members from the Board of Trustees (BoT) led by its secretary, Mrs. Ibukun Odusote, Mrs. Mary Uduma, Prof. Mrs. Adenike Osofisan, Mr. Shina Badru; former Executive Board members, namely, Remmy Nweke, Biyi Oladipo, Akinbo Cornerstone, as well as the pioneer BoT chairman, Pa Isaac Odeyemi, and some incumbent Executive Board of Directors among other management team led by the chief operating officer, Mrs. Eyitayo Iyortim.
