The former governor of Anambra State and 2019 vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Obi, has faulted the recruitment process of the Nigerian leadership structure, reports
ITREALMS.
Mr Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and 2019 vice presidential candidate for PDP
Speaking as a special guest at the fourth annual lecture by Freedom Online on the theme: Nigeria's Political Indices: Bright or Bleak future? Mr. Obi said that Nigeria, with a population of over 200 million has everything but poor leadership.
He attributed this to the poor and faulty leadership recruitment process.

He posited that Nigeria needs to enthrone leaders who are competent based on pedigree in the habit of talking less, capable of upholding law and order in the society, especially for the essence of development at this era.

He also said that development is all about quality leadership through attracting requisite investment in human development.

"Leaders must know what development is all about," he said.

He stressed that building infrastructure is good but requires requisite human capacity to fill in the gaps and manage the infrastructure for a better society.

The former vice presidential candidate, equally enjoined Nigerians to work towards salvaging the country from its current quagmire as the 2023 elections draw nearer.

Mr. Obi insisted that Nigeria has everything but unfortunately found itself having all the known indies of a failed state; from economy to security.

Though he lamented that Nigeria has continued to borrow without tangle things to show for it, Obi enjoined citizens to also be ready to ask the right questions.

"Let us get involved in the way we recruit our leaders," he urged.

Earlier in his keynote, the former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, declared that the future of Nigeria is bright and condemned those selling their votes and those buying to stop as that negates the essence of institutional building of a nation like Nigeria.

He warned those selling their votes to desist as that act will deprive them the opportunity of asking questions when it matters most and for good governance to prevail.

For the former Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Peterside, its time to stop dwelling so much on the past and focus on the future now as tomorrow may be too late.

According to him, quality of leadership impacts on all citizens and aligned with the need to rethink our recruitment process for the leaders of this country.

"We must mobilise our citizenry. Now is the time to take action," he declared.

Welcoming guest, the host and Editor-in-Chief of Freedom Online, Mr. Gabriel
Gabriel Akinadewo,
said that the time to decide on the bright side or bleak future for Nigeria is now as the world is moving and not waiting for Nigeria.
Chairman of the occasion, former governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi speaking at the event
