Clearing of 661 riffles: Customs declare two officers wanted, says technology needed

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has declared two of its officers wanted over the clearance of a one-40 feet container in Lagos at the weekend, reports ITRealms.

The Deputy Comtroler General, in charge of Enforcement, Investigations and Inspection, Mr. Dan Ugo in a public statement in connection with the clearance made available to ITRealms, said that the container with No. PONU/825941/3 was found to contain 661 pump action riffles.

He also beckon on Nigerian public to arrest and take to the nearest Customs formation and contact his office immediate if any of the two wanted officers are seen.

Ugo further gave the names of the two wanted officers as Assistant Superintendent of Customs, Mr. Abdullahi, I, with registration number 44483 and Mr. Odiba Haruna Inah with 133386.

He equally gave some two lines to be called promptly as 08033551952, 8035980568.
ITRealms recalls that on Monday, 661 pump action rifles, were confiscated by the Force in Lagos.

Assistant Comptroller and Acting Spokesman of the Nigerian Customs, Joseph Attah, had confirmed that four Customs Officers as well as the importer, clearing agent and a driver, recently involved in the illegal importation of arms, are now under arrest.

He described as unfortunate that some Custom Officers and Nigerians will want to connive and bring this kind of deadly cargo into the country.

“Immediately the weapons were discovered, they held the clearing agent and they went to arrest the importer. We also have the motor boy that was taking the consignment to the destination. We understand that they were heading to somewhere around Festac,” he told Channels TV.

He, however, pointed out the need for technology deployment at the strategic places including ports and borders.

According to him, some of the areas Customs is looking at more development is needed to curb the illegal importation of arms, is technology, stressing the need for scanners at the borders, and ports.
