Buhari’s win, an April fool story?

It was April 1st, amidst high hopes the opposition party members, All Progressive Congress (APC) listened in anxiety as the Independent National Electoral Commissions Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega announced the winner of the 2015 Presidential Elections. With unprecedented celebrations renting the air, the APC party faithful’s took to the streets of the nation in high tensed jubilations.

Although the direction of the outcome became more realistic as the results collated trooped in, but with several promptings of electoral misconduct and the generated argument at the INEC Election result collation centre, between a party faithful of the ruling party, Godsday Orubebe and the Jega-led National Electoral body, one would indeed be piqued to ask; did Buhari truly win the 2015 general elections? Was INEC, APC or PDP trying to give Nigerians an ‘April fool’ gift?

As though Nigerians truly needed not to be fooled, the results revealed a distinguishable margin of 1,345,441 votes in Kastina State for the APC candidate, while 361,209 votes in Bayelsa State for the Peoples Democratic Party candidate; hometowns of General Mohammad Buhari and Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan respectively.
In what looked like an unfinished amusement, the APC candidate finally landed with
15,424,921 votes or  53.95 percent of the 28,587,564 total valid votes cast, to oust the sitting PDP candidate, who came running off with a total of 12,853,162 (44.96 percent) votes; as such creating an undisputable significant margin line of  2,571,759 votes.

A striking unimaginable feature is the sudden silence the ruling PDP party characterized the announcement of the President-elect, against all believe of their forceful revolt.  So what happened to the accusations of the underage voting in the North? The multiple thumb printing? The largely undistributed PVC’s to the South East and South South zones as they alleged?
How did the opposition ruling party suddenly go dumb with their voice? What truly shut the lion’s mouth? Or was there delivery van merely packed with ‘April fool’ gifts for Nigerians?

Whichever perspective one views it, with the heated tension, expectations were geared towards a questionable contest of the end result by the ruling opposition party, but to the dismay of his faithfuls, the incumbent President rolled out the drums, took to the stage of defeat and danced to resignation of fate.

A dance which signals total victory for the APC led Presidential candidate, now President-elect. Indeed a dance of victory! The dance of the ‘April fool’ story!
