Gov. Orji launches Computer for All Abians phase 2

The Executive Governor of Abia State, Chief Theodore Orji, has re-launched the Phase 2 of the Computer For All Abians Initiative (CAAI), at the capital, Umuahia, last weekend.

CAAI, is a computer acquisition scheme created following the success recorded by the Omatek e-Xpress initiative with specific focus on an easy way to acquire personal computers by all public servants in Abia State with payment plan spread over 6 – 24 months.

Chief Orji, represented by the Commissioner for Public Utilities, Mr. Vigilus Chukwudi Nwankwo said that the re-launch of the CAAI scheme re-affirms government’s determination to ensure that all civil servants in the state are in tune with global trends.

Also, he said that the consumer scheme would go a long way in supporting the computerization efforts of the government aimed at fostering good governance.

Addressing civil servants at the State Secretariat, Umuahia during the re-launch, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Charles Nwafor commended the initiative, urging all civil servants in the state to take advantage of the opportunity of the Omatek computer acquisition scheme to enhance their capabilities in service delivery.

In her remarks, the Group Managing Director of Omatek Ventures Plc, Mrs. Florence Seriki said the partnership with the Abia State Government in introducing CAAi in 2007 was in furtherance of the company’s commitment towards Information and Communication Technology (ICT) development in Nigeria.

She noted that the mutual partnership would help to foster an enduring ICT legacy in the State through technology transfer, research and development and skills development required to build a formidable civil service.

ITRealms Online recalls that the Omatek cum CAAi project was initially launched on July 17, 2007 by Chief Theodore Orji during his first term in office.

Omatek prides itself as the first indigenous computer firm in Africa to assemble computer casings, speakers, among others from Completely Knocked Down components and the first computer firm to be listed on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).
