NITDA partners ministry on curriculum

National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has concluded plans to partner with the Ministry of Education on development of Information Technology (IT) curriculum for tertiary institutions.

Director-General, NITDA, Prof. Cleopas Angaye, made this disclosure, last weekend in Abuja in chat with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said that the move was aimed at providing better understanding in the utilisation of IT tools in the country.

“We are looking at the ways we can collaborate with the appropriate agencies, ministries and departments, especially the ministry of education in the development of IT curriculum. In all spheres of life, be it education, tourism, management, parliamentary duties and e-government, IT is the basic tools,’’ he said.

Angaye also said the curriculum development would be extended to primary and secondary schools later “with a view to exposing the kids to the use of computer.”

His agency, Angaye said, would try to come out with a curriculum for primary schools because it is our belief that these kids will appreciate the benefits of computer, “but our main target now is to pay attention to the tertiary institutions,’’ he said.

Further, he said, that the agency would provide visual libraries for students to enable them to do their studies without difficulties.

Pointing out that NITDA would partner with states, local governments and international organisations in the provision of IT parks.

"We believe that the parks will boost IT development in the country because it will help to drive the economy," Angaye said.

He said that the agency was expecting that the Electronic Transaction Bill now before the National Assembly would be passed into law very soon.

Emphasizing that when passed into law, some of the lapses currently experienced would be a thing of the past.
