Awe joins XLR8

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) inclined consultancy firm, XLR8, has absorbed one of the nation’s respected ICT media practitioner, Mr. John Awe, into its fold.

Awe’s rare ability to see what others miss and his use of simple, entertaining language endeared his works to the hearts of his considerable readership.

Until joining XLR8, Mr. Awe was the Deputy Editor and Head of the Lagos Bureau of the African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, the publishers of the Tribune titles.

He brings to XLR8, a wealth of media experience garnered over 12 years.

Apart from his weekly ICT column in the Nigerian Tribune, Mr. Awe writes for several local and international publications, including Middle East and Africa Wireless Analyst, a subscription-based business intelligence publication of the Informa Telecoms & Media Group of London.

Mr. Awe graduated with a Second Class Upper Division from the Department of English Studies of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife in 1992 and holds a 1998 Master’s Degree in Communication and Language Arts from the University of Ibadan.

He joined the Nigerian Tribune in 1994 as a reporter, and by dint of hard work, rose rapidly through the ranks of Senior Correspondent, Assistant Editor and was promoted Deputy Editor and Head of the Lagos Bureau in 2004.

A stickler for unceasing human capital development, Mr. Awe has attended training programmes at Rhodes University and University of Witwatersrand both in South Africa and in such countries as Ghana and Germany among others. He is a member of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).

“Mr. Awe’s coming”, says XLR8 Chief Executive Officer, Calixthus Okoruwa, “will further enrich the diversity of the multi-disciplinary team which we’re painstakingly building. We have no doubt at all, that it will translate significantly to added value for our growing clientele of world class blue-chip corporations”.

XLR8, has in less than two years of existence consulted for some of the world’s best known brands.

These include Ericsson, IBM, Cisco, Nokia, Entertainment Highway Limited, and eTranzact among others. Its annual ICT expo, e-NNOVATE has been described by Nigeria’s communications minister as “one of the more ambitious efforts to bridge the digital divide.”
