The game featured CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba and famous football players, including Jay-Jay Okocha, El Hadji Diouf, Asamoah Gyan, Dennis Oliech, and Erick Otieno, who graced the field in a show of support for the sport and community development.

Zonal pitches for Rising Stars tourney’13

Two-week zonal championship play offs for the Airtel Rising Stars tournament 2013 began on Monday with the organizers naming the training pitches.

ITRealms gathered that the North East zone would take place at Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna while Abuja zonal championship for the North Central zone has been scheduled to hold at the Old Parade Ground, Area 10, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

For Enugu zonal matches, ITRealms also gathered would be at the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus Stadium, Enugu, whereas the Liberation Stadium would serve as the venue for the Port Harcourt zonal championship.

Just as the Legacy Pitch, National Stadium, Surulere and the Mainbowl of the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan would play host for both the Lagos and Ibadan legs of the zonal championships respectively.

Successful talents from this exercise will qualify to feature for their teams in the knock-out stages from where eight teams from both the male and female categories would proceed to the semis to determine the two finalists and eventual winners.

The winners will automatically qualify as zonal flag bearers to the national championship in Lagos.


The Airtel Rising Stars U-17 Tourney, in its third year, is a pan African initiative of Airtel Africa, designed to provide support for the development of football talents across African markets.
