Izon Assembly asks Dudafa to account for N9.95b

A socio-cultural group in Bayelsa State, Izon Ibe Youth Assembly (IYA) has tasked former Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Waripamowei Dudafa, to account for the $50m, about N9.95billion found in his possession, ITRealms reports.

In a press release, the Bayelsa based assembly accused the former Aide to Jonathan of fraternizing with Buhari’s administrations by releasing sensitive documents to the government whereas he has explanations to make as to how he came about a huge amount of money found on him.

"Our query for Dudafa is: How did he come about the 50 million dollars in his possession? Why did he flee from the country? Why is he fighting his former boss and the wife? Is it because he was told to return their money in his possession and he refused? But no matter how far he would probably go in his actions as a traitor, nemesis will catch up with him”.       

The organization, ITRealms gathered, specially said the ex-Presidential Aide was responsible for the document containing details of the recent probe of $6.9 million about N1.37billion mobile stage for public events.

Spokesman of IYA, Jones Opugu, in a statement in Yenagoa said Dudafa was "a traitor and a disgrace to the Ijaw nation," adding that the reason he was doing all that was to be in the good book of the new administration and possibly avoid invitation by the Department of State Services (DSS) to account for his actions while in government.

"It is regrettable that in this season of betrayal of our own son and former President Goodluck Jonathan, a very close aide like Waripamowei Dudafa could be an associated traitor. We have it on good authority and have subsequently found out to be true that Dudafa was behind the latest probe where his former boss and former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Allison-Madueke, were alleged to have purchased three pieces of 40 feet mobile stages for mass public speaking at $6.9 million.

"As now a public knowledge, he is afraid of all the atrocities he committed as a privileged aide by fraudulently collecting huge sums of money from unsuspecting visitors to the Presidential Villa who were desperate to see the former president but failed to deliver.”

2015 Presidential Elections: Jonathan’s act is historic, heroic and statesmanlike - Uduaghan

The Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has said that President Goodluck Jonathan has demonstrated that he was truly a statesman and a patriotic Nigerian, reports ITRealms.

Speaking Wednesday at a Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders meeting in Asaba, the Governor said that by the courageous act of conceding defeat and personally calling on General Mohammadu Buhari to congratulate him, Mr. President exhibited an uncanny patriotism and statesmanship.

"For me, the hero of this election is Mr. President; if he did not do what he did, if he did not call General Buhari, the story would have been different, we congratulate the President for being a statesman, for being a worthy example, for being patriotic and showing that personal interests should not override national interest."

In particular, he said that President Jonathan's congratulatory message to Gen. Buhari saved the country from post-elections chaos, reiterating: "The President showed an exemplary character, he waited patiently to be accredited and asked Nigerians to be patient despite the challenges of the elections and personal embarrassment  to his person and office."

Besides, he stated that the emergence of General Mohamadu Buhari as President-elect signified the enthronement of true democratic culture in Nigeria by the President, saying: "For us in Delta State we congratulate President Jonathan for giving us a democratic process that allows for free and fair elections."

The Governor, who used the occasion to congratulate General Buhari on his election, disclosed that the meeting was called by him to thank members of the PDP for their impressive showing during the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

According to him, "I called this meeting to thank you sincerely and to congratulate you on our very strong showing as a party during the last elections, I believe we had the strongest showing in the country, it happened because we are united, we worked hard and we worked together, I want to thank you sincerely and I want to commend the PDP for putting up a democratic process that gives power to the people."

"My appeal is that as we did it on March 28 and March 29 we should also do the same on the 11th of April, for all our candidates so that we can come tops at the end of the day."

The PDP Governorship candidate in the state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa said Governor Uduaghan's leadership qualities made it possible for the PDP to win the three Senatorial seats, nine seats of the House of Representatives and victory in all the local government areas during the Presidential elections.

While expressing confidence that the PDP will also, emerge victorious in the governorship and House of Assembly elections Senator Okowa thanked leaders of the PDP for their commitments towards delivering votes for the PDP.

Senator Okowa urged Deltans not to waver in their commitment towards working for the victory of the PDP in the remaining elections.

I’ll never abdicate my security responsibilities, Jonathan warns political gladiators

President Goodluck Jonathan has sternly warned political gladiators to stay off the polling stations of today’s Presidential and National Assembly elections nationwide by desisting from fomenting troubles in any part of the country, reports ITRealms.

“… I will never abdicate my responsibilities in that regard” he declared during a national broadcast on the eve of the elections last night, advising security agencies to summarily deal with any person find causing trouble according to the laws.

He also restated his belief that no political ambition could justify violence or the shedding of the blood of any Nigeria.

President Jonathan reaffirmed his personal preparedness to ensure fair play during the elections and to deploy the resources and institutions of state only in the manner prescribed by the laws.

“Let me warn, however, that as President, Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, I am under oath to protect the lives of all Nigerians and the security of our country at all times,” he maintained.

He pointed out that those who may harbor any intentions of testing his administration’s will by unleashing violence during the elections in order to advance their political ambitions should think again as all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure that any persons who breach the peace or cause public disorder during or after the elections are speedily apprehended and summarily dealt with according to our laws.

He emphasised that the nation’s security agencies are also fully prepared and ready to deal decisively with any group or persons who attempt to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the elections or cause any form of public disorder.

“Our dear country, Nigeria is the largest democracy amongst black nations of the world. We are a nation of great accomplishments, with a proud history of evolving affinities,” he noted.

President Jonathan therefore enjoined Nigerians to vote peacefully and set a fitting example of political maturity for other emerging democracies to follow.

“I wish you all and our dear nation, very peaceful and successful elections,” he said.

Jonathan reassures on sanctity of May 29

As outcome of the postponement of dates for the 2015 general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), President Goodluck Jonathan has reassured Nigerians of his commitment to the sanctity of May 29, 2015 as the terminal date of his first term in office, reports DigitalSENSE Business News.

DigitalSENSE Business News correspondent recalls that INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega had last night after a prolonged meeting with his commissioners and senior management told newsmen at INEC that 2015 general elections dates has been changed from February 14 and 28 to March 28 and April 11.

Reacting shortly after the postponement announcement by INEC, President Jonathan reaffirmed that “May 29 is, has been, and will remain sacrosanct” according to press statement made available to DigitalSENSE Business News by the Special Adviser to the President, Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati.

Abati also quoted the President as appealling to all stakeholders to accept the adjustment of the election dates by INEC in good faith, as the electoral body has a responsibility to conduct credible elections in which every Nigerian of voting age is afforded the opportunity to exercise their civic rights without any form of hindrance.

Also, President Jonathan expressed the belief that this is not a time to trade blames or make statements that may overheat the polity, but a time to show understanding and support the electoral commission to conduct the elections successfully. 

“It is the President’s understanding that INEC’s decision ought not to generate acrimony since it acted within its powers under the law and in consultation with all relevant stakeholders,” Mr. President stated. 

Further, he called on the international community, civil societies and the electorates to continue to support the administration’s commitment to a free, fair, credible and non-violent electoral process.
