Clement calls on government to subsidize education

A visually impaired teacher, Winful Clement, said government has a duty to subsidize education in Nigeria especially for the visually impaired, ITRealms reports.

An Information Communication Technology (ICT) teacher at Parcelly School for the Blind and Partially Sighted Children Lagos, was talking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)  in Lagos recently.

To him an average visually impaired student needs equipment like writing frame, typewriter, Braille machine, laptop and an application called Job Acceleration with Speed (JAWS) to learn."To train a visually impaired person like myself is very expensive than the able-bodied person. The least material we use to educate the visually impaired students is about N5, 000.  On the average, a student needs more than N500, 000 to purchase the equipment he or she will use in school and also other resources which cannot be quantify”.

Clement, ITRealms gathered, stressed the need to pass and sign into law the Disability Bill, adding that when signed into law, it will serve as the last hope for persons with disability.

 "Public and private organization are not employing visually impaired graduates, they say we cannot perform, but with today's technology, we can work in the office conveniently with the support of application and ICT," he stated.

Clement listed the lack of access road, unpaved road, lack of facilities in public places like banks, hotels, cinema, public transportation as some of the challenges confronting visually impaired students in their day-to-day activities, ITRealms reports.

Nwaobiala commends Krystal's Microsoft I.T Academy

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. MacJohn Nwaobiala has said that the Krystal's Microsoft I.T Academy aimed at promoting Information Communication Technology (ICT) in schools across Nigeria is commendable, ITRealms reports

He took this position at the official commissioning of I.T Academy learning Hub, an ICT centre built at Kings College in Lagos, by Krystal Digital Limited.

Nwaobiala, ITRealms gathered, lauded the efforts of the Principal of Kings’ College, Lagos, for being the pioneer principal under whose regime such remarkable collaborative project was hatched, saying, "Krystal Microsoft I.T Academy initiative will help the ministry's commitment in promoting ICT education in federal unity schools across the country", he stated.

The Managing Director, Krystal Digital Limited, Temitope Ogunsemo,ITRealms learnt, said that the gesture was to enhance the teaching and learning of ICT education among unity school students. He stated that the I.T academy partnered with Microsoft to teach both students and teachers in federal unity schools all I.T suites which include Microsoft words, excel, power point, adobe page makers among several others.

"Modern day learning equipment will be used to teach the students and teachers ICT education for them to meet with modern day technology," The modern equipment include,  “ interactive board, pointer, projectors, solar and inverter to complement electrical power supply and computer base settlement (CBS)," he said.

Ogunsemo, ITRealms reports, added that 8 ICT centres have been built by I.T Company across some unity schools in South-west andadded that there were ongoing plans to build more ICT centres across federal unity schools in the country.

NigeriaCom 2013: Digital Quality Delivery is Top Priority – Etisalat

A two-day discuss on connectivity, telecoms, media and Information Communication Technology (ICT) hosted by the Nigeria Com 2013 and sponsored by Etisalat Nigeria in Lagos, Nigeria, ended with a declaration by experts that digital quality delivery should be top on priority of operating networks.

The event which came to a close on the 18th of September 2013, with the theme ‘Working Together to Provide Quality Services Throughout The Digital Realm’, saw the 4^th edition of the annual conference and exhibition attended by over 700 telecom experts from over a dozen countries, discussing sustainable quality of service, innovative offerings, issues in the digital industry, and added services.

These, experts overtly agreed operators needed to capitalize on by working closely with content providers.

ITRealms recollects that on day-1, Etisalat Nigeria’s Director Network Engineering, Mr. Temi Ogunbambi gave a keynote during a panel debate on the topic “Quality of Service on the Network: Challenges & Opportunities for Telecoms Operators in Nigeria,” stressing that Etisalat took quality of service seriously and passionately by creating sustainable strategies for transforming connectivity delivery in the country.

He also disclosed that Etisalat worked diligently to ensure that this would be continuously maintained across the country with the top priority of giving consumers value for money.

Equally on day-2 speakers harped on the boom in mobile financial services, applications and the use of social media, with representatives from Google, Mobile Monday, Ibaka TV, Eskimi, 2go, and the Ekiti State Government, among others.
