AOU’s Team Humane wins Microsoft Nigeria’s Imagine Cup 2016


The national finals of the 2016 edition of Microsoft Nigeria Imagine Cup, Team Humane representing the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife emerged winners of this year’s competition, reports ITRealms.

The competition, ITRealms gathered provides opportunity for student technologists, developers and aspiring entrepreneurs from all academic backgrounds to collaborate, develop a technology application, create a business plan and gain a keen understanding of what is needed to bring a concept to market. 

This year National finals was held at the Microsoft Office in Victoria Island, Lagos, and had eleven participating teams drawn from various tertiary institution within the country. The winning team, Team Humane, which comprised of Otaru Babatunde, Oyatope Blessing, Shoaga Victor, and Ayodele Obasegun, competed in the World Citizenship Category.


Their solution, Humane is a solution for the visually impaired, which enables them to interact and navigate freely on their mobile phones. The solution comes with an accompanying hardware known as the Humane handle, which interacts with apps installed on a device using Bluetooth. A visually impaired person would be able to navigate through various apps installed on his/her mobile phone using the handle and an integrated voice navigation system.

NCS partners OAU software centre on five-day cloudshop



The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) is partnering the Centre of Excellence in Software Engineering of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife, on a five-day cloud computing workshop, reports ITRealms.

Confirming this to ITRealms, the duo of Prof. Sola Aderounmu of OAU and Taiwo Oyesanwo of NCS, said that the collaboration between NCS and Centre of Excellence in Software Engineering of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, would be a hands-on session.

They also revealed to ITRealms that the occasion would afford the presentation of Cloud computing with Open Nebula to be held between April 28 and May 2, 2014 at the centre of Excellence, OAU, Ile-Ife.

Equally, they said that some of its facilitators will include Prof. Christoph Reich  and Thomas Rübsamen of Cloud Research Lab, Hochschule Furtwangen University (University of Applied Science), Furtwangen, Robert-Gerwig-Platz 1, Germany.

Other highlights expected at the event include how to install Open Nebula, configuration, virtualisation techniques, networking, and storage decisions.

Also participants are to learn how to manage OpenNebula administration via virtual machine images, user administration, infrastructure administration, administration Graphical user interface.

In addition, the five-day workshop will accommodate the subject on Cloud Management System, namely Management APIs, Load Balancing, Accounting, Monitoring as well as advanced topics in cloud Computing.
