DHQ, British Defence staff kick off human security and gender course @Abuja - ITREALMS

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) in collaboration with the British Defence Staff (BDS), has officially commenced the Human Security and Gender Adviser Course at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Asokoro, Abuja, reports ITREALMS.

This strategic two-week training programme brings together a diverse cohort of participants from both military and paramilitary agencies, marking a significant step in enhancing the collective understanding of human security factors and their essential cross-cutting themes within the Nigerian security landscape.

Nigerian Temi Adebayo, wins British Journal of Photography award 2020 - ITREALMS

Nigerian-born photographer and a member of Royal Times of Nigeria editorial team, Mr. Temi Adebayo, has won the prestigious international photography prize of the British Journal of Photography (BJP) award 2020., reports ITREALMS.

His photograph, captioned Hu:Man, ITREALMS gathered was selected as part of the award winning photographs of the year 2020 which will exhibited at the Seen Fifteen Gallery in London, UK, from 30th April to 22nd May 2021.

How MD School got British Council International School Award

The Lagos-based MD Nursery and Primary School, has been awarded the prestigious British Council International School Award, reports ITRealms.

The British Council, ITRealms gathered, conveyed this decision to the school via a letter dated January 16, 2018.

According to the letter, signed by the Council’s Project Officer in charge of Schools Education, Olumide Akintunde: “We are pleased to inform you that your school’s ISA portfolio has been assessed, and your school has successfully been awarded the British Council International School Award (ISA) for the 2016/2017 round.”

Akintunde also said that the formal presentation has been scheduled for April this year as part of activities to mark the schools operations for over 30 years.

The letter to the school, which is run by an erudite educationist, Julie Adedugbe, added: “We would like to congratulate the entire school body on this achievement. Well-done!!”

The British Council International School Award recognises and celebrates exemplary practices of internationalism in schools.

According to information on the website of the British Council, the International School Award is a benchmarking scheme that accredits schools as having an outstanding level of support for nurturing global citizenship in young people and enriching teaching and learning.

The ISA was introduced in India in 2003 and nearly 2,500 schools across the Asian country have been so recognised.

The Council said the range of schools participating in the International School Award varies from the well-resourced private schools to government schools from rural areas and schools for the less advantaged communities.

The International School Award now has a presence in 31 countries worldwide.

The award, according to the Council, has a positive impact on not just the students, but also the teachers and school in its entirety.

It is said to be a leadership challenge and fosters team building, innovation and project management.

The British Council is the United Kingdom's international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities.

President Jonathan to meet Nigeria’s high-level investment council in London

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will travel to London this evening to preside over a meeting of Nigeria’s Honorary International Investment Council (HIIC) which opens in the British capital on Friday, November 21, 2014, reports DigitalSENSE Business News. 

The HIIC, DigitalSENSE Business News gathered was established in 2004 to advice the Federal Government on matters pertaining to Nigeria’s economic development, making the Nigerian economy more competitive globally and attracting greater direct foreign investment to boost domestic industrial growth and job creation.

DigitalSENSE Business News also gathered that discussions at the HIIC meeting in London will focus on the current investment landscape in Nigeria, developments and opportunities in the ongoing upgrade and expansion of Nigeria’s public infrastructure, as well as opportunities and reforms in Nigeria’s rail transportation, power and construction sectors. 

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati disclosed to DigitalSENSE Business News in a press statement dated November 19 in Abuja that President Jonathan would be accompanied to the meeting by key ministers including the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Olusegun Aganga, the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, the Minister of Defence, Gen Aliyu Gusau (rtd.) and the Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar. 

DigitalSENSE Business News further learnt that they would be joined by the Coordinator of the HIIC, Baroness Lynda Chalker and other key members of the Council including Haruki Hayashi of the Mitsubishi Corporation, Yves Louis Darricarrere of Total, Andy Brown of Shell, Guillame Roux of Larfarge, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Mr. Jim Ovia, Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, some state governors and Chairmen of the National Assembly Committees on Transport to name a few.
