West Africa to host Boeing 737, A320 aircrafts maintenance

Series of Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircrafts are now headed to West Africa for maintenance services, courtesy European AviationSafety Agency (EASA) certification to the Bamako-based Airport Assistance Company of Mali (ASAM S.A.), reports ITRealms.

The certification comes in the heels of Approved Maintenance Organization with the ability to offer line maintenance services in West Africa for Boeing 737 (300/400/500 -  600/700/ 800) and Airbus A320 (A318 to A321) aircrafts at the Modibo Keita-Sénou international airport in Bamako, Mali.

The Chief Executive Officer of ASAM S.A., Dominique Dreuil,  expressed delight to a partnership with AMC Aviation, a French company which has been approved as a maintenance organisation by the European Aviation Safety Agency, the Bamako (Mali) station was approved and added to the list of line maintenance sites with Part 145 approval: FR.145.0674 – Regulation (EU) 1321/2014, on the 12th of December 2017.

Dreuil explained that this certification allows ASAM S.A., under the ASAM Technics label, to perform maintenance on airplanes and issue a Certificate of Release to Service (CRS) for an aircraft registered in any member country of the European Union or registered with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), which makes ASAM S.A. one of the first Approved Maintenance Organizations of this kind (non-airline) in West Africa.

The first maintenance was completed by ASAM Technics’ technicians on December 13, 2017 on an Aigle Azur A 320 from Bamako to Paris/Orly.

“African companies are in a constant and urgent search for cost saving solutions, particularly in terms of aeronautical maintenance and Mali’s strong geo-strategic location allows it to deliver aeronautical services to the entire sub-region. A new terminal has just been completed at the Bamako airport and the establishment of a rigorous environment with international standards will only further increase the attractiveness of this hub”, he said.

According to the ICF International 2015 Market Study; 17 per cent of maintenance expenses of African companies are spent on line maintenance. And while the air transport market is expanding in Africa, margins remain among the lowest in the world making it ever more important to focus on reducing costs. According to a recent IATA report, margins will go down from 3.4% to 0.6% between 2017 and 2018.

ASAM Technics is now equipped with modern facilities, all the necessary tools and has met the stringent standards required to deliver line maintenance services at the Bamako airport.

Emirates Academy partners Boeing for pilot training

Plans have been advanced for the opening of Emirates Flight Training Academy in October 2016 in partnership with the famous Boeing, reports ITRealms.

Emirates Flight Training Academy, the new world class flight training facility developed by Emirates airline is coming in response to the industry’s growing need for pilots, just as the airline signed an agreement with Boeing.

Under the deal, ITRealms gathered that both organizations will collaborate on a comprehensive training curriculum and software infrastructure to support Academy operations.

Also, ITRealms gathered that Emirates Flight Training Academy, currently under construction at Al Maktoum International Airport- Dubai World Central (DWC) and scheduled to open in October 2016, will combine best practices in education with state of the art learning technologies and cutting edge training aircraft.

Under the agreement with Boeing, Emirates Flight Training Academy will receive an integrated software system, based on the Peters Software system acquired by Boeing, for managing cadet learning and training flight operations, and an enhanced curriculum customized for Emirates. Cadets will learn with highly interactive digital content delivered in purpose-designed classrooms and on personal tablets.

“Our programme is designed to produce career-ready pilots. Exceeding regulatory requirements, the curriculum will, for instance, see cadets complete at least 1,100 hours of ground and 315 hours of flight training using a competency-focused approach. We are leveraging Boeing’s expertise in airline pilot training to identify opportunities to enhance the Academy’s curriculum,” said Captain Alan Stealey, Principal, Emirates Flight Training Academy.

Emirates designed the Academy to promote advancements in four key areas of pilot training: interactive learning for theoretical subjects in classrooms, practical learning in the most capable training aircraft, practical learning in advanced flight simulators, and airline-focused line-oriented flight training. When fully operational, the Academy will be able to accommodate over 600 students at a time.

Emirates recently placed an order for 27 aircraft allowing ab-initio pilots to receive 100% of their training in the UAE at the most advanced pilot academy in the world with a purpose-built learning environment for developing professional pilots. Ab-initio pilots in the airline’s long-running Emirates National Cadet Programme currently complete their training at a variety of overseas locations. When the Academy opens its doors later in the year, all aspects of pilot training for the airline will be established in Dubai.

Emirates Flight Training Academy will initially focus on cadets in Emirates’ existing prestigious National Cadet Pilot Training Programme for UAE nationals. However, the Academy intends to welcome international cadet pilots in the near future.
