The administration of Senator Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has mapped out relevant plans to speedily entrench the development of Information and Communication Technology in order to put the state on a higher pedestal for digital economy, agriculture and telemedicine.

The Coordinating Director, Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Mr. Murtala Adekilekun Kehinde Jimoh stated this while addressing participants at series of stakeholders consultation and validation workshops on State ICT and Innovation Policy currently holding at the Staff Development Centre, behind Osun State Government Secretariat,


The Coordinating Director who was extremely delighted to address the gathering further unfolded commitment of Governor Adeleke to positively turn the State around in all ramifications geared towards making Osun to be at par with the best global practices,
technologically.

The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has unveiled a six-pronged project to touch the lives of Osun masses in all the local governments areas of the state, within his 100 days in office initiative, reports ITREALMS.

The programes, according to his spokesman, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, includes the following:

The Ekiti State Government (EKSG) has unveiled activities towards the commemoration of first 100 days of the second missionary journey of Dr. Kayode Fayemi, as governor, reports ITREALMS.

Disclosing this to ITREALMS, the Chairman, Media and Publicity Sub- Committee of the Central Planning Committee, Mr Yinka Oyebode, said that Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Fayemi, would on Thursday, January 24th flag off a training and empowerment programme for 6,300 youths in the state as part of the activities.

He recalled that Dr Fayemi was inaugurated as Governor of Ekiti State on October 16, 2018. The administration would be 100 days in office on Thursday.

Oyebode in a press statement also made available to ITREALMS, Governor Fayemi would deliver the “State of the State” address at the State’s House of Assembly in Ado-Ekiti, on Thursday.

“The State of the State address, would focus on the journey of the past 100 days and the administration’s plans for immediate and future development of the state,” he said.

Other programmes slated for the one-day celebration, he told ITREALMS, include the flag off of the New Ado-Iyin road project, a Stakeholders Forum, where representatives of critical stakeholders in the state would interact with the Governor and his team.

The 6,300 youths billed to participate in the training and empowerment programme are drawn from all the 16 local government areas of the state. The programme is being done in collaboration with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

Further, he said, Gov. Fayemi has opted for a low key celebration, due to his vision to see Ekiti State regain her lost glory through huge investments in education, health care delivery; agricbusiness, youth development, infrastructure and industrial development.

Fayemi, he said, believes this could be achieved through effective application of the four pillars of the administration’s development agenda namely “Social Investments, Knowledge Economy, Infrastructure and Industrial Development; and Agriculture and Rural Development.”

Innovation Dinner to address Nigeria IT leaders’ challenges

This year’s IT News Africa Innovation Dinner to be held on the 16^th of September, 2015 for senior technology executives in Lagos will address the many challenges faced by today’s Information Technology (IT) leaders in Nigeria, and provide a roadmap towards delivering sustainable business, ITRealms reports.

The Africa’s technology news leader said that Dimension Data, an ICT services and solutions provider in conjunction with VCE, an EMC Federation Company and  world market leader in converged infrastructure, will be the lead sponsor of the Dinner which has the theme: “Transform to Better Perform: Information Technology’s role in driving competitive advantage, customer value and business growth in an uncertain economic environment.”

According to information, the Dinner will also review a recent World Bank report  that warns that Nigeria will face a series of tough challenges in 2015 and 2016. These challenges include the looming prospect of higher borrowing costs as the West African country adapts to a new era of low prices for oil and other key commodities.

Low oil prices, ITRealms gathered, have considerably reduced growth in commodity-exporting countries (Angola, Nigeria), and also slowed activity in non-oil sectors. In responding to the challenging business environment, senior managements are  increasingly looking to IT to provide innovation and transformation, reduce costs and improve business efficiency.

These challenges will require a new vision and operating model for IT infrastructure and service delivery, one that is far more responsive, adaptive, scalable and efficient than yesterday’s version.

Buhari fears Nigerians revolt after 100 days in office, seeks media support

President Muhammadu Buhari has decried the culture of 100 days in office for political office holders, which mounts lot of pressures even as he expressed fear of revolt by Nigerians, thus seeking media support, reports ITRealms.

Speaking to State House correspondents, Monday, on his first official day in his office, barely 25 days after assumption of office, lamented that the culture of 100 days in office has not been helpful as there are lots of pressure to make a mark within this period.

“This culture of 100 days ‘in office’ is bringing so much pressure with treasury virtually empty, with debts in millions of dollars, with state workers and even federal workers not being paid their salaries. This is such a disgrace for Nigeria. I think Nigeria should be in a position to at least pay its workers. This bad management that we find ourselves in, we really need your help to protect us from people before they march on us,” he asserted.

Buhari also disclosed that he inherited an empty treasury from his predecessor, which corroborated assumption that Nigeria was broke and may need of a bailout in spite of being the sixth largest producer of crude oil in the world. 

He expressed concern that indebtedness by the government which run into millions of dollars is a worrisome situation, stressing that its disheartening to note that states and federal workers are owed salaries.

This, he feared may cause a lot of disaffection among Nigerians and invariably lead to peoples’ revolt, although he assured that with the relevant cooperation from the citizens, mostly the media, these challenges are resolvable.

He reiterated that the culture of assessing government’s performance in the first 100 days in office was putting extensive pressure on him considering the effects of the mismanagement he allegedly inherited.

President Buhari, accompanied by the duo of Adesina and his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, noted it was not by accident or error that he appointed one of the best journalists in the country, Mr. Femi Adesina, as his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.

He pointed out that whether Adesina’s job would be easy or not would depend entirely on him, but was hopeful that what happened recently under former President Goodluck Jonathan when a State House correspondent was expelled would not happen under his administration.
