Oladipo died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after suddenly taking ill at his office in Lagos. He was rushed to a hospital, where he passed away hours later. His death was confirmed late Tuesday evening by Danlami Nmodu, the President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), on the guild's platform, where Oladipo served as an emeritus president.
Oladipo was a highly respected figure in the Nigerian media space with a career spanning both traditional newsrooms and digital publishing. He previously served as the Politics Editor at PUNCH Newspapers and worked with other prominent media organizations, including the Nigerian Tribune, Nigerian Compass, and The Sun. He later established The Eagle Online, serving as its publisher and managing editor. He earned a Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication from the Ogun State Polytechnic, Abeokuta, in 1992.
Colleagues and public figures have expressed deep shock and sorrow over his sudden death. Lanre Ogundipe, a former president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and the African Union of Journalists, described him as a man of substance, professional resilience, and quiet conviction. Omoyele Sowore, publisher of SaharaReporters, also paid tribute, calling him a complete gentleman, accomplished digital journalist, and remarkable human being.
