IHS Nigeria, a subsidiary of IHS Holding Limited, has significantly advanced the country’s creative economy through a strategic partnership with the National Commission for Museums and Monuments to renovate and modernize the National Museum in Lagos, reports ITREALMS.
This comprehensive upgrade focused on restoring the structural integrity of the main gallery while integrating essential modern technologies to enhance the visitor experience and ensure the long-term safety of Nigeria’s most prized antiquities.
The renovation introduced sophisticated technical enhancements, including the installation of advanced surveillance cameras to improve security and a robust solar inverter system designed to drive energy efficiency across the facility.
These infrastructure improvements are paired with new climate control systems and specialized lighting to better protect and present world-class artifacts such as the ancient Nok terracotta and the magnificent Benin bronzes.
This physical transformation follows the successful launch of Nigeria’s first digital museum of antiquities, a project also sponsored by IHS Nigeria, which effectively digitizes the nation’s heritage for a global audience.
Mohamad Darwish, CEO of IHS Nigeria, noted that the initiative reflects the company’s broader commitment to sustainable development and the preservation of national history.
He emphasized that the goal was to provide a welcoming and technologically secure environment for tourists and researchers to immerse themselves in Nigeria’s rich narrative.
Supporting this sentiment, Olugbile Holloway, Director General of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments, expressed that the restoration of the museum is a restoration of the nation’s collective memory.
He highlighted that the support from IHS Nigeria ensures that future generations will have the opportunity to engage with their heritage within a facility that reflects the true greatness of Nigerian history.
