In a landmark move to cement Nigeria’s status as a global energy powerhouse, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has officially launched its Gas Master Plan (GMP) 2026, codenamed NGMP 2026, reports ITREALMS.
Unveiled at the NNPC Towers in Abuja on Friday, January 30, 2026, the plan serves as a sophisticated roadmap to transition Nigeria from a nation of "potential" to one of disciplined execution, leveraging its 210 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of proven gas reserves to drive energy security and sustainable economic growth.

He emphasized that while Nigeria has long boasted one of Africa's largest gas endowments, the NGMP 2026 is specifically designed to solve the historical challenge of translating those resources into reliable supply and measurable economic outcomes.
By aligning with the Federal Government’s "Decade of Gas" initiative, the plan positions natural gas as the primary engine for industrialization and a "just" energy transition.
Echoing this vision, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, described the roadmap as an execution-anchored strategy aimed at elevating Nigeria into a competitive global gas hub.

The targets set within the framework are ambitious: exceeding the Presidential mandate to increase national gas production to 10 billion cubic feet per day by 2027 and 12 billion cubic feet per day by 2030.
Furthermore, the plan is structured to catalyze over $60 billion in new investments across the value chain by 2030, focusing on cost optimization and the systematic advancement of resources from 3P to bankable 2P reserves.
The NGMP 2026 prioritizes the strengthening of gas supply for power generation, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and Mini-LNG, alongside critical industrial offtakers.
