Abuja is set to host some of the country’s most influential leaders, media executives and diplomats as the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) holds its 2025 Annual Conference on November 12 and 13.
The two-day event will hold at the Presidential Villa Banquet Hall and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Conference Centre, Jahi, Abuja.
In a statement jointly signed by the President of the Guild, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, the NGE confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will formally declare the conference open at the Presidential Villa on November 12. The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, and Chairman, ThisDay/Arise Media Group, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, will serve as Conference Chairmen.
Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, will deliver the keynote address, speaking to the central theme: “Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors.” The sub-theme, “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027,” is expected to animate robust national reflection ahead of the next general elections.
The Guild noted that the conference remains one of the country’s most credible platforms for examining governance, democracy and public accountability. Speakers and paper presenters have been carefully selected to provide strategic, non-partisan perspectives on national cohesion, constitutional balance, security, media ethics and professional responsibility.
On Day One, Prof. Awa Kalu (SAN), Managing Partner, Awa Kalu & Partners, will speak on “Election Disputes and Judicial Integrity: Navigating the Thin Line Between Law and Politics.” He will be followed by Prof. Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim, Head, Political Science and International Relations, University of Abuja, who will speak on “State of the Nation: Imperative of Economic and Political Reforms in a Challenged Nation.”
Day Two at the NAF Conference Centre will feature a security and media roundtable led by former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor (rtd), discussing “Media, Terrorism and National Security: Addressing the Complexities.” Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi, Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Baze University, will deliver a paper on “The Evolving Face of Journalism: Battling Misinformation, AI Disruption and the Credibility Gap.”
There will also be a high-level Executive Session, where editors will engage policymakers and business leaders on national priorities and media responsibility.
