President of NCS, Dr. Mohammadu Sirajo Aliyu, said that the three-day event has been slated to hold at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) on June 11 through 13, 2024.

“NCS is excited to announce an upcoming Cybersecurity Forum and Workshop, scheduled to take place at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in Abuja from June 11th to 13th, 2024. “

This forum and workshop, Dr. Aliyu said, will serve as a platform for experts to share their knowledge, discuss best practices, and develop strategies to enhance cybersecurity in an increasingly digital world.

He also noted that a key focus of the forum and workshop, will be addressing the alarming rise in mobile channel fraud, which, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NIBSS) Industry Fraud Report Q1 2024, has increased by 19% compared to the previous quarter.

This finding, he said, underscored the urgent need for advanced cybersecurity measures and the development of robust strategies to combat evolving threats.

NCS president, who was accompanied by the some National Executive Committee (NEC) members, including the deputy president, Dr. Charles Onyeukwu, immediate past president, Prof. Adesina Sodiya; chairperson, publicity, Dr. Shulamimite Ilebiyi and chair, 2024 cybersecureity forum and workshop, Dr. Olusoji Okunoye as well as the ExExecutive Secretary, Mr. Adesegun Adekunle, pointed out that the event is aimed at tackling these pressing challenges and equipping participants with skills and insights needed to protect digital assets and infrastructure effectively.

As said by Dr. Aliyu, leveraging the latest data and trends highlighted in the NIBSS report, “attendees will be better prepared to counteract the specific techniques that fraudsters are increasingly employing, such as social engineering and phishing.”

NCS president went on to say that through collaborative efforts and sharing of cutting-edge knowledge, participations will be able to foster good cybersecurity environment capable of safeguarding the nation’s digital future.

“We aim to foster a resilient cybersecurity environment capable of safeguarding Nigeria’s digital future,” Dr. Aliyu submitted.
